POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the Projects and Fixed Assets modules in Oracle, processing project and fixed asset related journal entries and ensuring that CIP and Fixed Assets and related depreciation is recorded accurately in the GL. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for maintaining Fixed Asset TAX sub ledgers within Oracle and Sage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong participation in the month-end close process while applying GAAP accounting to effectively report accurate GL balances
  • Ownership and maintenance of Fixed Asset sub-ledger for both Tax basis and Book basis
  • Preparation of journal entries, including proper GL account, department, location and project cost coding with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Timely and accurate accounting of new fixed assets purchases and disposals/retirements
  • Reconciling Project Accounting with GL Accounting and reviewing balances for reasonableness
  • Analyzing open CIP projects and identifying projects that are ready to be placed in service
  • Reviewing the accuracy of system calculated depreciation for GAAP and Tax
  • Reporting depreciation fall off schedule for GAAP and Tax
  • Allocation of overhead labor to internal construction projects
  • Calculating capitalized interest on open CIP projects
  • Closing Oracle Projects and Fixed Asset modules as a part of the month end close process
  • Select balance sheet account reconciliations (CIP, Fixed Assets, etc.)
  • Documenting changes to fixed asset processes and procedures
  • Regular review of system and procedural efficiencies and accuracy to ensure financial statement integrity
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Able to be highly confidential.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of GAAP and Accounting Practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient with computers to include the utilization of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Oracle system or other large ERP experience preferred
  • Manages stress and/or fast-pace effectively in a multi-task deadline oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, dedicated, flexible, good team player.
  • Initiative and ability to own projects from start to finish.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited school
  • Minimum of 2 years public or private accounting experience, with 1 year being in Fixed Asset and Project accounting
  • Sound understanding of Fixed Asset processes and accounting including journal entries

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Standard office; extensive daily usage of workstation or computer.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a current, valid state issued driver's license
  • Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
