Web Archiving and Archival Processor Intern - Spring/Summer 2019 (Academy Gold)

Job Summary:

The Core Collection Reference Files Intern duties will include archiving websites for film releases, film festivals, and film blogs utilizing the web archiving application Archive-It. In addition, the intern will process collections of ephemera to be added to the Core Collection Production Files including a large collection of Mexican lobby cards. The internship will focus on archiving websites and processing collections related to under-represented voices, themes, and filmmaking crafts. This is a limited internship position beginning in March through August 2019 in the Core Reference Files Department of the Margaret Herrick Library and reports to the Head of Core Collection Reference Files.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Search and retrieve online content for film releases, film festivals and other content with a specific focus on films and websites related to under-represented voices, themes and crafts.
  • Crawl, capture and archive film websites using Archive-It.
  • Enter descriptive metadata into spreadsheet, Archive-It and library databases.
  • Add Archive-It links and update holdings information in library databases.
  • Sort, organize and catalog collections of ephemera including lobby cards, pressbooks, programs and advertisements.
  • Enter item level metadata into spreadsheet and update holdings information in library databases.
 
Position Requirements
  • Enrolled in ALA-accredited Master’s degree program in library and information science or moving image studies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in film studies, history, art history or a related field preferred.
  • Experience or coursework in advanced searching tools, digital preservation and metadata schemas preferred.
  • Knowledge of archival best practices, preservation standards and current developments.
  • Familiarity with library systems, content management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of film history, with broad awareness of independent features, foreign language cinema and current releases.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift a 30-pound box to and from high and low shelving as well as sit at a computer and enter data for long periods of time.

This internship is part of the Academy Gold Program, an 8-week summer internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
