Description

The Ward Summer Student Research program provides an opportunity to experience a unique interdisciplinary mentorship experience. Successful incumbents will have opportunities to work with their mentor on a research project, attend our Lunch ‘n' Learns and participate in the annual Ward Summer Student Research Day where they will have an opportunity to present their findings to the organization and its visitors.

We are looking for an enthusiastic summer student to work on our interactive gaming projects for physical and occupational therapies. We use the latest interactive gaming technologies (Kinect 2.0, Leap Motion, Myo, etc.), to push the current limits of technology to help meet our goals. Working with clinicians, engineers and researchers you will be assisting in developing/analyzing data/researching interactive video games that incorporate the goals of our clients' therapies.

Compensation Details

The program runs for 12 weeks from May 6, 2019 - July 26, 2019. Students will be paid $14.00 per hour based on a 37.5 hour week (full-time), less statutory deductions, including 4% in lieu of vacation and relevant statutory holiday pay. Students will be paid biweekly through payroll.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data gathering, entry, analysis and report writing related to the study of engagement in interactive computer play based therapy sessions
  • Development of data analytics and tracking algorithms related to movement quality during interactive computer play based therapy sessions
  • General administrative and clerical functions to support projects
  • Interaction with clients, families and staff of the program, and other program's staff throughout the organizations
  • Additional duties assigned as required

Qualifications

  • Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff and clients
  • Strong problem solving skills with a desire to learn
  • Demonstrated understanding of a Family-Centered Care service delivery model
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel
  • Previous experience working on observational and/or kinematic research studies would be an asset
