GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Lending Relationship Manager (LRM) will be responsible for both lending and business development duties reporting to the Vice President - Sales & Chief Lending Officer (CLO). She/he will be responsible for delivering excellent service to both internal and external clients and will primarily handle the loan application process from pre-underwriting through closing of loans. As part of the lending role this individual will also be responsible for preparing credit packages and delivering to the Chief Lending Officer so that he can review and work through the appropriate channels as outlined in the credit guidelines for loan approval/decision. This position will also be responsible for overseeing the construction lending process through project completion for each client. Additionally, this individual will lead the efforts pertaining to all loan modifications, collateral adjustments and any other changes to existing loans.

Pertaining to the Business Development responsibilities of this position, it will be the expectation that this individual will on average devote 35% of their weekly activities focusing on proactive client and prospect efforts via phone and electronically for the purpose of growing existing client relationships and/or acquiring new clients for both investments and loans. Goals for this position will be established by the CLO and communicated to this individual on a quarterly and annual basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Lending Relationship Manager, in consultation with the Vice President - Sales & CLO is charged with helping support the Cornerstone Funds financial well-being by developing and implementing a strategic plan to identify, qualify and pursue lending opportunities from Local Churches, Associations, Conferences, and related entities.
  • Receive telephone inquiries from clients and prospective borrowers discussing interest rates, loan terms, and loan products as well as outlining the credit process and timelines involved. These communications will be handled by the LRM unless otherwise discussed with the CLO.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, and procedures. Additionally, have a thorough knowledge of the Investment products offered by Cornerstone to conduct conversations and uncover opportunities for Investment growth.
  • Provide exceptional customer experience by overseeing the loan process from origination to close and providing on-going communication to the borrower.
  • Build and maintain high-level contacts with current and prospective borrowers and existing clients. Develop and maintain professional and courteous relationships exemplifying values which are consistent with the United Church of Christ.
  • As determined by the CLO, attend National, Regional, Conference, Association and Local Church meetings in order to advance the business development efforts of the Cornerstone Fund.
  • Review and organize loan applications, communicate and collect from applicant items necessary for complete application.
  • Prepare and underwrite loan applications for submission to and approval by Cornerstone Fund management and the appropriate loan committees, delegate preparation of loan commitment letters for communication to approved borrowers. Meet turn times for underwriting of loan requests (once full packages are received) as outlined in Service Level Agreement (to be established by CLO).
  • Review loan committee approvals for terms and conditions, receive borrower signed commitment letter and execute appropriate documentation and services to perfect mortgage closing, prepare funding instructions for closing fees/disbursements.
  • Prepare and underwrite loan applications for submission as outlined in agreement with Church Building and Loan Fund (CB&LF). These credits will be underwritten in accordance to CB&LF’s credit guidelines as outlined in their credit memo templates and other documentation. This individual will also have contact with potential borrowers to gain additional information and to have questions answered when needed during the underwriting process. Once complete credit packages are received by LRM the credit write up will be completed within five (5) business days.
  • Work with outside partners such as; attorney(s) and paralegal(s) on participation agreements, closings and document modifications.
  • Track and verify that all security documents are properly executed before placing in permanent credit file.
  • Review collateral perfection of loan purchases from other organizations.
  • Maintain and update active lending pipeline within SFDC, so that it reflects opportunities at the accurate stage from 10%-100%. Additionally, maintain any other tracking/reporting necessary to proactively manage lending opportunities.
  • Conduct client and prospect outreach efforts with the goal of growing existing or acquiring new business for both investments and loans. On average these activities will account for 35% of the Lending Relationship Managers overall responsibilities. The CLO will create targets to be measured against and these activities will be tracked and documented within the Salesforce client management system and will be included in both the mid-year and year end performance evaluations.
  • Prepare reports as needed including real time pipeline management in SalesForce.Com.
  • In conjunction with the V.P. Sales & CLO, establish and maintain written policies and procedures for the Cornerstone Fund's lending activities in conformance with the established lending policies.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform successfully in this position.

  • College degree with emphasis in Marketing, Business Administration or Sales; or a combination of academic study and experience;
  • At least eight years' experience in banking or lending;
  • Significant understanding of the policies and procedures required in the banking/lending industry particularly the principles and practices of real estate secured lending, investing and financial management;
  • Five to seven years supervisory administrative experience in the mortgage loan process with a thorough understanding of mortgage department operations (i.e. loan applications, preliminary underwriting, processing, closing, and servicing) in a regulated industry such as a bank, savings & loan or credit union;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines;
  • Ability to obtain or maintain Series 63 or Series 7securities license if needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds, experience and levels of sophistication;
  • Understanding of PC technology including spreadsheet and word processing capabilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially, as well as independently;
  • Ability and willingness to work in a diverse and inclusive ministry environment, and willingness to learn and adapt to the UCC denominational culture.
