About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQIA+) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Position LPN Pediatric & OB/GYN  
Full-Time/Part-Time -unspecified-  

Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager and as a member of a medical team, the LPN will provide phone support and assist with triage, provide specialized nursing support for patients and medical providers as well as general and administrative support for other clinical activities such patient walk-in triage, assistance with specialized clinics, and other duties as assigned at all Fenway Health clinical locations.

Representative Duties:

  1. Providing Patient Triage: the safe, effective and appropriate disposition of health related problems
  2. Occupational Health
  3. Case Management
  4. Providing direct patient care, using nursing procedures as appropriate under nurse licensure in an outpatient clinic
  5. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of medical issues
  6. Attends to healthcare issues of specific populations
  7. Provides health education
  8. Effectively communicates with patients, co-workers on medical team, in medical department and across departments
  9. Meets Agency Participatory Expectations
  10. Performs other related duties as required

Position Requirements


  • Current licensure as LPN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current CPR certification required
  • IV insertion / Phlebotomy skills a must
  • Minimum 1 year of successful supervisory experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • Experience with patients with HIV and electronic medical records strongly preferred
  • Interest in LGBT health and commitment to community health preferred
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
  • Moderate physical activity Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds, assisting with patients and standing and/or walking for most the day
  • May work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
