HEADSTART SUBSTITUTE JANITOR
OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Lower Elwha Head Start Health Manager the Substitute Janitor shall be responsible for the job duties listed below.
WORK LOCATION: Lower Elwha Head Start
SUPERVISED BY: Health Manager Head Start Director
POSITION STATUS: On Call/Substitute
SALARY LEVEL: Grade $7 13.23 to $15.19
WORK SCHEDULE: On Call/Substitute as needed
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- DAILY CHORES - Keep building clean per schedule.
- LOCK AND SECURE BUILDING DAILY. Check all doors and windows; set alarm
- Vacuum all carpeted areas
- Sweep and mop all floors (kitchen, classrooms, halls, and restrooms)
- Clean all sinks daily (restrooms and classrooms)
- Clean all restrooms (disinfect daily)
- Fill all dispensers (soap and towel - in restrooms and classrooms)
- Empty all garbage cans and waste baskets daily (restrooms, classrooms, kitchen and offices)
- Store all cleaning solutions in a locked area
- GROUNDS AND PLAYRGROUND MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY
- Sweep entrances daily (front main entrances, ramps off each classroom, and rear entrance off kitchen and dining area)
- Sweep covered play area
- Check grounds front and back for debris. Remove any objects that may cause injury or create and unsafe environment
- Perform a safety check on the playground equipment and fence, keep in good repair
WEEKLY CHORES
- Wash windows - inside and out
- Hose down covered area and sidewalks
- Wash waste baskets and garbage cans
- Wash tables and chairs in dining areas
- Dust areas such as window sills, light fixtures, removing cob webs, etc.
MONTHLY CHORES
- Clean outside gutters monthly
- Make sure that all cleaning equipment is taken care of properly and put away
- Inventory supplies and place order with Health Manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY POSITION:
- Ability to communicate in a team situation.
- Ability to respond to requests of teachers, cook and other staff
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to safely use, store, and dispose of industrial cleaning agents
- Ability to complete assign project in a timely manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous janitorial experience
- Valid Washington State Driver License and safe driving record
- First Aid and CPR card, within three months of employment
- Pass a Criminal History Investigation
- No prior convictions for child-related offenses or any felonies
- Current physical with letter from a doctor that states you are free from communicable disease and negative tuberculosis (TB) test by employment date.
- High School or GED preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical ability to meet job demands. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Involves bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms
- Walking, standing for long length of time to perform job duties
- As with all positions of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe this position is Indian Preference in hiring in accordance with P.L. 93-638. A Head Start parent preference will apply if a head start parent meets all the qualifications.
