Description

Summary

Reporting to and partnering with the CEO, the CFO will set SAL Family and Community Service's (SALFCS) financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization's overall strategy. She or he will lead all financial administration, business planning, and budgeting. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work closely with a motivated and engaged finance committee of the board of directors.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Strategy

  • Partner with the CEO on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team and oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with SALFCS strategic plan.
  • Engage both the CEO and Chief Program Officer (CPO) of development to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections including expanding and securing new funding opportunities.
  • Engage the board and finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally to continually improve systems and financial performance.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and processes to promote internal controls, the safe guarding of SALFCS assets, the prevention of fraud, compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, sound business practices, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and SALFCS board of directors and leadership team; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
  • Coordinate and oversee all audit activities.
  • Collaborate with HR Director and evaluate all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for SALFCS employees.
  • Collaborate with Quality Compliance Director regarding insurance coverage and evaluate protection against losses and potential liabilities.
  • Oversee financial and programmatic contract compliance with all funding sources to include grants.
  • Review all formal finance related procedures, processes, and administration, recommend LEAN improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
  • Prepare and analyze reports as required by regulatory agencies.

Team Management

  • Develop, evaluate, and manage direct staff, to include finance and quality; guide larger multidisciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.
  • Engage other members of SALFCS leadership team-HR Director, Directors of Programs such as Skip-a-Long, SAL Child Care Connection, Child Care Resource & Referral of Midwestern Illinois, and Open Door-to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial solutions positively support SALFCS's evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.
  • Provide guidance on attracting and developing team members for SALFCS.
