PLS Director of Transmission Operations

Power Line Services, Inc. (PLS) is a leading provider of high-voltage transmission, substation, and distribution construction and maintenance services. PLS provides the industry expertise, resources and experience necessary to perform electrical transmission and distribution construction services, as well as construction and commissioning of substations, for utilities, regional cooperatives, municipalities, and renewable energy developers.

PLS is currently looking for an experienced Operations Director to manage, oversee and direct all aspects of transmission operations. This is a full-time, exempt position at PowerLine Services' headquarters in Irving, Texas. Travel will be required.

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP of Operations, this position will be responsible for the execution of all transmission line construction projects, providing oversight of all field management and staff, evaluating operational performance and aligning with the company's strategic plans and project delivery guidelines. The position will ensure that all resources within the division are managed and coordinated in an efficient and professional manner on all projects in order to perform work within set budgets and on or ahead of schedule. In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring that all safety and financial requirements within the division are being met. Essential functions of the job include:

  • Providing general oversight to operations all field operations, coordinating and assigning tasks, monitoring work, training, and mentoring.
  • Participating in the preconstruction phase, including estimate development and project plan development.
  • Managing and developing relationships with existing and potential customers.
  • Responsible for overall hiring and development of all crews.
  • Coordinating all personnel and scheduling for projects.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring safety and productivity of crews.
  • Overseeing equipment requirements for division.
  • Ensure that Operations is working in conjunction with project management.
  • Perform field audits to monitor work habits, job performance, and safety performance.

Position Requirements


  • At least ten years of experience managing projects in Utility construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, construction management, engineering or a related field a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office, is essential.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills are necessary, as well as the ability to successfully work under minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check, and a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
