About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Description

Function
Under the general standing orders and regular supervision of the of the Executive Director of Nursing, Medical and as a member of a medical team, the -RN for Young Adult Programs will manage execution of grant-related requirements and reporting associated with family planning services delivered at the Borum via the Title X Grant; act as the clinical liaison with the ABCD grantor; provide clinical care and assessment of patients at off-site STI clinics located at BAGLY's Boston Community Center and Youth on Fire's drop-in center in Cambridge. Supervise and monitor the Borum's rapid HIV C screening program; perform case management for patients taking PrEP; triage patients for the Borum's STD clinic; manage all aspects of the clinic's DPH-sponsored STI testing including lab processing and required forms; work closely with the MA DPH and Boston Public Health Commission on communications concerning reportable diseases and partner notification.

This position will also provide phone support, triage, medical case management, specialized nursing support for patients and medical providers as well as general and administrative support for other clinical activities such as patient walk-in triage), and other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • ASN/BSN/MSN and current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Familiarity with the GLBTQ community and people living with HIV/AIDS (e.g., ANAC certification)
  • Aptitude for and commitment to working with at-risk youth and young adult populations
  • A sincere commitment to community health
  • Experience with electronic medical records strongly preferred
  • Current CPR Certification
  • BLS certification required
  • IV insertion/phlebotomy skills required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Requires being able to work a standard 7.5 hour day, including three sessions a week lasting until 7PM; rarely, a work day may require a shift up to 12 hours
  • Requires working in at least three different office locations each week, with regular travel between sites
  • The majority of the work day is sitting, although walking and standing on level surfaces is required
  • Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds Assisting with patients may require lifting up to 70 pounds Lifting greater than this amount will require you to ask for assistance
  • Ability to use a phone or headset in an environment with background noise typical for an office setting
  • Ability to view a computer screen and paperwork in general office lighting conditions
  • May work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment
  • Work may involve exposure to strong smells
