For more than 30 years, Boundless has proudly supported individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a great number of ways. Boundless is currently seeking a Transportation Director to help us enhance those services!!

The Transportation Director will provide leadership in managing, directing, and coordinating safe, efficient, and economical operation of the our vehicle fleet and transportation system. The Transportation Director is responsible for directing the daily operations of the transportation department to assure safe and efficient client transportation, vehicle maintenance, vehicle acquisition, routing, scheduling, and fiscal responsibilities in support of the our operations and programs for clients.

Essential Functions

Follows all rules, policies and procedures of organization, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to transportation of clients.

Leads and coordinates effective management and continuous improvement of client and organizational transportation operations.

Maintains and operates a safe, fiscally sound, and efficient transportation program. Develops and administers departmental budget and coordinates departmental purchases.

Coordinates recruitment, training, and assignment of departmental personnel.

Conducts accident/incident investigations (e.g. reviews events, prepares and submits accident reports, etc.) for the purpose of complying with legal and insurer requirements.

Assumes responsibility for on-going communication with leadership, departments and external agencies regarding transportation related issues.

Facilitates departmental meetings, in-service and behind the wheel instruction, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, and supporting other staff.

Assumes responsibility for maintenance and recordkeeping for our fleet of vehicles.

Maintains safety standards in compliance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventative maintenance and safety.

Develops bus routing for all school district eligible students.

Develops on-going in-service program for school bus drivers, mechanics, and staff covering safety, client management, care of equipment, and interpersonal skills.

Oversees the development of our vehicle safety and education programs for the fleet of vehicles.

Develops methods for interaction between employees and managers concerning job responsibilities in order to enhance job satisfaction; solve job-related problems and improve organizational effectiveness; assist in creating an environment that emphasizes a commitment to service.

Maintains lines of communication with appropriate officials for reporting hazardous road or traffic conditions.

Consults with management, drivers, parents, and agencies to recommend and advise on transportation issues.

Develops and maintains a competent and diverse staff committed to providing safe and reliable transportation.

Performs related duties and responsibilities as requested by the CFO.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.

Demonstrates functional knowledge of computerized routing systems in student transportation.

Demonstrates functional knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures related to transporting and vehicles fleets.

Demonstrates functional knowledge of budget preparation and implementation based on funding efficiency formula.

Demonstrates general knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of light and heavy vehicles.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate well with administration, employees, and external parties.

Flexibility and ability to adapt to/lead change.

Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other regulatory policies.

Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises subordinate supervisors who supervise employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with our policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking and occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected on occasion.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in business, transportation analysis, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five years of experience in transportation administration and fleet management.

Valid Ohio Drivers License.

Strong understanding of Non-Medical Transportation rules and regulations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Masters degree in business, transportation analysis, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Experience in transportation routing software and maintenance work order systems.
