Our vision is to get God's Word to every person, and we do this by recording Audio Bibles in every language and freely sharing them using the latest technology. We currently offer recordings in more than 1000 languages spoken by nearly 6 billion people around the world. Description

The Language Recording Coordinator supports the mission of Faith Comes By Hearing by working closely with field partners and internal FCBH departments to facilitate Scripture recording using the various tools and strategies available. The person in this position would serve one or more of the following regions: Americas, Africa, Eurasia and South Asia.

Responsibilities include:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (constant and recurring)

  1. Coordinate and monitor language recording activities and partnerships, whether Field, Virtual or Joint, within assigned region. Coordinate and interact with recording teams (via email, phone, Skype, social media and personal visits) to ensure their needs are met for completing their assigned recording tasks.
  2. Supervise recording team personnel/VR Project Coordinators as appropriate; monitor productivity and evaluate quality of performance according to MOU requirements; take corrective action when needed, with appropriate consultation with Recording Operations Manager.
  3. Collaborate and communicate with FCBH internal departments, recording partners/teams and field partners within assigned region(s) for determining, prioritizing, scheduling and executing recording projects.
  4. Demonstrate wisdom and discernment in communicating with partners, especially cross-culturally, concerning a variety of operational matters including financial compensation, performance, negotiating timeframes, handling expectations, etc. Invest time and effort to ensure healthy relationships are nurtured and maintained, both internally and externally.
  5. Review, negotiate and approve budgets for recording projects according to departmental norms; ensure funds are sent in a timely manner and according to budget and contract fee arrangements stated in Recording Team MOUs.
  6. Interact with Text Processing Department to ensure the preparation of accurate CORE Scripts.
  7. Recommend and implement solutions to resolve procedural and/or human relations issues between recording team members, with partners and within the community being served.
  8. Through personal visits and regular communications, work alongside translation partners and communities to craft recording projects according to the felt needs of partners. Understand and demonstrate various tools and approaches for accomplishing recording projects.
  9. In consultation with FCBH Recording Operations Manager, listen to, evaluate and respond to field needs and propose mutually beneficial solutions to accomplish the mission.
  10. Receive audio files from recording teams and ensure the files are complete before handing them over to Audio Processing. Ensure data tracking process, record keeping and financial tracking are properly updated and maintained according to organizational and departmental standards and guidelines. This includes proper use of the Language Project Tracking System (Access program); Partner Site for schedules and budgets (SharePoint); Project notifications, updates and financial record-keeping and reconciliation of receipts (Excel).

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (less frequent)

  1. As needed identify, qualify and facilitate relationships with new recording teams/partners.
  2. Assist Recording Operations Manager in crafting/revising partner MOUs
  3. Provide and/or arrange for administrative training of recording teams and field partners as needed and appropriate.
  4. Provide and/or arrange for technical training of recording teams and field partners as needed and appropriate.
  5. Contribute toward the development of training manuals and/or videos and establishment of operational guidelines. Actively monitor and evaluate recording activities to ensure adherence to established norms and guidelines.
  6. Provide and/or arrange for technical and/or troubleshooting assistance to recording teams/partners and internal departments as needed, occasionally outside normal office hours and outside of assigned region. This includes technical issues with software, equipment and recording operations.
  7. Obtain, produce and provide relevant field reports for FCBH Communication Department and Donor Development. This may include presenting in front of a live audience, both internal and external, at FCBH headquarters and in the field.
  8. Provide hospitality to guests, including crafting and distribution of visitors schedules, airport pick-up and drop-off, sharing meals at Beulah, in restaurants or at home as appropriate. Occasionally host visitors at local tourist attractions/events
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  • Missions-minded with a heart for reaching all people with the Word of God
  • One to three years of project management/coordination experience; ability to multi-task
  • One to three years of ministry experience in the field within the country/region of responsibility
  • Demonstrated successful cross-cultural living experience for at least one year
  • Bachelor’s degree in pertinent field or relevant equivalent life experience (e.g. linguistics, international studies, etc.)
  • PC proficiency in all MS Office applications; audio/media production experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed organizational and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated good judgment, problem-solving skills and analytical abilities
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 2-3 weeks at a time
  • Conversant in Spanish if Americas is a primary region; ability in Portuguese also preferred

Preferred:

  • Conversant in a language of wider communication relevant to the region of responsibility. In Africa, a French speaker is desirable; In Eurasia, a Russian speaker is desirable
  • General knowledge of Bible translation principles and processes
  • Strong technical skills, able to fully learn recording systems/software and train new recording teams in field and headquarters settings
