Description

The Smart Centres Creative Arts March Break Respite Camp is a day camp for children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays. Participants will interact and play through music, visual art, movement and drama. The goal of the program is to enable participants to have fun through creative, sensory and social experiences and to provide respite relief to families during the March Break school holiday (March 11-15, 2019). Successful candidates must be flexible to participate in training and meetings starting in February 2019 after business hours or on weekends. Additional, mandatory full-team training session is being held on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for client feeding and toileting with proven experience with Hoyer/ceiling lifts.
  • Assists Group Leader/attendants with clients' needs as necessary.
  • Assists in the safe participation of clients in the assigned group.
  • Supervises lunch/break times of clients.
  • Collaborates with program staff, volunteers and families.
  • Works as a team member, with Group Leader, attendants, volunteers and artists, in order to ensure programming goals are met, includes participation in group activities ie, sing along at music time etc.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advance a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PSW certificate/college diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience with Hoyer/ceiling lifts and direct support of toileting activities
  • Experience working with children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays equivalent
  • CPR HS (Heart Saver). Must be obtained prior to first day of employment
  • Must be flexible, have the ability to assess the needs of individuals and quickly respond to needs
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and work in collaboration with staff/clients/families
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
  • Sound judgment, communication and ability to work independently at times
  • Ability to lift, transfer or position participants independently as needed
  • Ability to feed and toilet participants independently as needed
  • Ability to take direction
