Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Opportunity Village, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead all financial operations. The CEO is looking for a deeply committed, seasoned and broadly experienced financial leader with a mission-focused, strategic and process-minded approach.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) must be a collaborative leader; able to help others at OV deliver measurable, effective results that ensure our vision remains a reality into the future. Of key importance will be this CFO's direct experience in leading a team of financial and accounting professionals in a complex, multi-business line, multi-organization environment.

The successful CFO candidate will bring the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of our team brings to our shared mission. While it's required that the CFO bring direct C-level financial leadership expertise to the organization, it's also essential they're capable of mentoring others and retaining the creative spark that drives the OV concept.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervises the finance/accounting unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organization; works closely with executive management on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of new funding.
  2. Oversees the production of required reporting including reconciliations with funders, financial statements and cash flow projections for use by management and Board of Directors.
  3. Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies.
  4. Develops and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets and oversee federal and other awards and programs.
  5. Oversees the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, related compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with US GAAP and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information.
  6. Works in partnership with the CEO and leadership team to build on the strategic plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it.
  7. Coordinates and implements annual operations plan and budget, and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.
  8. Provides a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridges the complex financial functions and creates a collaborative environment of support to the organization.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • The successful candidate must believe in the core values of OV and be driven by the mission and will demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate that has proven experience in scaling a multi-site organization from a financial perspective, and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, diverse financial team.
  • The successful candidate will most likely have had management experience with a for-profit organization. As noted, this is an organization driven by the values of its people, so experience in managing a “values-driven” organization will be highly prized.
  • Proven track Record of Results: exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; high level of business acumen including successful CFO-level financial leadership in a complex organization; and problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness.
  • Strategic Vision and Agility: the ability to anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into the financial plan.
  • Capacity Building: ability to participate in effectively growing our organization, developing a top-notch finance team and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
  • Organizational Leadership: a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect with staff both on an individual and team level, and ensure the finance team is a supportive and collaborative business partner throughout the organization; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower financial staff from the bottom up, lead from the top down.
  • Action Oriented: enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance and take unpopular stands when necessary for the benefit of the organization.
  • Strong General Management Practices: thorough understanding of finance and organizational systems. Broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Undergraduate degree; MBA, CPA and/or advanced degree preferred.
  • Required: Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with US GAAP and appropriate Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Required: Thorough understanding of the variety of funding sources available to public and private social service and related agencies.
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to recognize and be responsive to the needs of all staff and clients of the organization, including funding organizations, the Board of Directors, local community advocates, participants, and employers.
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to create and assess financial statements and budget documents.
  • Required: Thorough knowledge of general office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite; excellent Excel skills.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
