Job Summary:

The Special Projects Librarian will be responsible for a variety of specialized and changing library projects, primarily focused on providing research assistance and acting as a liaison to Academy staff. This position will also assist with internal exhibitions, provide reference assistance to Library patrons, compile and analyze statistics, and perform other duties as needed. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Reference and Public Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-depth research and project support for Academy staff, acting as point person for internal Academy requests. This may include, but is not limited to: research and fact checking Academy-related materials, digitization orders and organizing and managing requests for library materials.
  • Work with the Programming Department, Chief Preparator and other departments across the Academy to coordinate exhibitions for single-night Academy events.
  • Manage special projects and provide key departmental administrative functions in support of the Reference and Public Services Department.
  • Responsible for providing reference assistance during assigned shifts, both in person and via telephone or email.
  • Generating monthly statistics data and creating usable reports for collection managers and Library Director.
  • Participate in abstracting and indexing of published materials for core collections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • ALA-Accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
  • Degree in Film History or related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years reference experience, preferably in an academic or special library.
  • Prior experience in Project Management strongly preferred.
  • Experience with library systems, including AdLib, InMagic, and CONTENTdm.
  • Knowledge of copyright and the rights and reproduction process preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work well independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Service oriented focus and willingness to provide assistance across departments.
  • Ability to work creatively in a diverse environment, set priorities, and meet tight deadlines as needed.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of initiative, circumspection, and judgment.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours, climb stairs, and lift up to 25 pounds. May have to tolerate dusty/dirty materials.
