Film Archive Intern - Winter and Spring 2019

Job Summary:

The Academy Film Archive is offering winter and spring internships to students who are currently enrolled in archiving, film studies, library and information studies, moving image studies, or other conservation-related programs. An internship at the Archive is project-based and you can expect to gain experience in the everyday workings of a film archive, be introduced to our cataloging and collection management systems, and develop skills in how to properly handle and inspect film and video material. The internship will be two full days a week for ten weeks (about 120 to 140 hours total) per quarter. Some projects may require a two-quarter commitment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creating preliminary lists and descriptions of uninventoried collections.
  • Collection research via our in-house database and outside sources.
  • Performing video quality-control and creating descriptions of video content.
  • Inspection, inventory, and cataloging of archival film and/or video materials.
  • General support for department activities related to records management and preservation.
 
Position Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate accredited program.
  • 3.0 grade point average or higher.
  • Minimum of one year of study toward a degree in a related field.
  • Exhibit an interest in the film industry, specifically in moving image conservation and preservation.
  • Strong writing, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated computer and related technology skills; experience with word processing and spreadsheets.
