SUMMARY
Astronics - Luminescent Systems Inc., a leader in aerospace lighting technology and applications, is expanding our Engineering team at our organization located in Lebanon, NH. Our engineering team designs products for commercial and military aircraft using a variety of lighting technologies (LED, electroluminescent, high intensity discharge, and incandescent).
The ideal candidate will have strong management skills, as well as project engineering skills with a solid background in the design, development, qualification and manufacture of aerospace products. Familiarity with the electromechanical design of lighting technologies and/or a background designing products for aerospace or high-reliability markets would be advantageous. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
Some travel is required, both domestic and international.

Lead the engineering team. Manage a group of engineers, designers, and support staff to provide product design and development, compliance, and sustainment activities. The engineering manager is responsible for hiring, training and the professional development of the staff for the department. Essential duties include making and managing plans to accomplish goals, performing annual reviews, and other tasks typical of supervision. Technical and communication skills are critical, along with the ability to build a strong, committed team.
Strengthen existing business processes and initiate best practice reviews where there are gaps. The engineering manager is responsible for all engineering processes required by AS9100, including configuration management, requirements management, and product qualification and certification. Essential duties include the development and enforcement of company standards, with an emphasis on improving productivity. Also, working with managers from other disciplines (sales, quality, and operations) to identify company objectives and execution plans.
Develop new products and introduce new processes and capabilities. The engineering manager is responsible for assigning the technical resources to projects to support customer programs, internal R&D initiatives, and deployment of new manufacturing processes in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. This includes analyzing product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine design approaches that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Essential duties include tactical execution of day-to-day engineering operations, and interfacing with customers and industry experts. In addition, active participation in design reviews to address risks while ensuring compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Candidates for this position must have:
B.S. degree in engineering or other technical discipline.
Seven years of experience with at least three in a supervisory role.
Demonstrated ability to lead, guide, coach, mentor, and train team members.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to distill complicated topics to a broader audience.
Experience in the area of electromechanical manufactured products is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community Command of the English language.
Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Astronics works a flexible 9/80 schedule (9 hour days Mon- Thurs, 8 hour day Friday #1 and Off Friday #2).
