The part-time Associate Program Consultant contributes to high quality implementation of services to assigned schools in the Bronx. The Associate Program Consultant provides coaching to participating mentor teachers to support implementation of NTC’s mentoring protocols and tools in a high-quality and responsive manner. The consultant will work onsite with approximately 14 schools across the central Bronx and also participate in NTC professional learning activities and staff collaboration.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.

  • Coach instructional mentors onsite in schools, observing practice, taking low-inference notes following NTC’s protocol, and facilitating reflection
  • Facilitate meetings with mentors and school leaders to support team reflection, and consult with school leaders as needed
  • Engage in cycles of pre-and post-communication with each school following guidelines provided, and completing a post-visit survey for each visit
  • Collaborate with NTC staff to support school leaders and stakeholders with program implementation
  • Embrace NTC’s model and Theory of Action and spirit of collaboration and contribute to the ongoing improvement of New Teacher Center programs
  • Manage personal calendar, travel and job responsibilities in a fluid, transparent, and team oriented work environment with a high level of initiative, creativity and flexibility

Work Commitment - 50-60 days distributed as follows:

    • Jan-Feb 2019: 5-10 days
    • March 2019: 15-20 days
    • April 2019: 5-10 days
    • May 2019: 15-20 days
    • June 2019: 5-10 days

  • Some days will be flexibly scheduled at the employee’s discretion, also in accordance with school availability to accommodate coaching visits; and other days will be defined by NTC’s calendar of professional learning
  • 10-20% of the time per month will be spent on preparation, post-communication follow up and teaming with NTC staff responsible for the schools and district
  • A portion of paid time will be devoted to learning the NTC model, attending trainings, shadowing other staff, and reading materials

Professional Learning Responsibilities

  • Learn about NTC’s model, resources, and methodologies, and teach these to others
  • Remain current with professional readings and research especially relating to Common Core State Standards/New Rigorous State Standards
  • Ongoing peer collaboration and feedback including the sharing of practice videos
  • Engage in formal formative assessment practices
  • Participate in collaborative NTC team meetings
  • Learn to use NTC’s on-line systems including: Learning Zone, Zoom, TALENT, Ascentis, Mighty Networks, NTC’s Intranet, Netsuite, Smart Sheets

Position Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of recent classroom teaching experience in (K-12). Minimum 2 years of mentoring or coaching experience in NTC supported model or equivalent preferred
  • Must have had teacher leader experience and/or responsibilities
  • Must be experienced with Common Core State Standards
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of using teaching standards (e.g. Danielson) as a formative assessment and teacher development tool
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the current educational landscape and priorities in NYCDOE
  • Demonstrated commitment to accelerating the learning and impact of early career teachers, and the cultivation of teacher leadership.
  • Experience designing and leading professional development for teachers.
  • Valid teaching and/or administrative certificate/licensure
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of NTC’s theory of action and induction programs
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of NTC tool and protocols
  • Ability to develop and write professional publications, training materials, grants and reports
  • Ability to manage one’s time and productivity in a fluid, team oriented, work environment with a high level of initiative, creativity and flexibility
  • Demonstrate ability to develop strong relationships and work well within districts and NTC
  • Reflective practitioner demonstrating the ability to use feedback to improve self, program and community
  • Knowledge of school reform, professional learning communities and the impact of coaching on both entities desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • General knowledge of Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat, virtual meeting software and experience with assessment data desirable

ADA Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Limited physical effort required
  • May have national travel based on projects assigned
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm
  • Driving, grasping, hearing, repetitive hand motions, lifting under 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, talking, typing
