Job Summary:

The Director of Individual Giving for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is an extraordinary opportunity for a seasoned fundraiser to manage and build a robust Individual Giving program to support ongoing operations for the Museum as well as to assist in the completion of the Campaign for the Academy Museum (now at 90% of the goal raised and scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2019). The successful candidate will be a metrics-driven major gift fundraiser, experienced in building new fundraising programming and systems, proven in working with volunteer leaders and high-level prospects, able to lead and mentor colleagues, and a professional who thrives in a dynamic, entrepreneurial culture.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Advancement and External Relations, the Director of Individual Giving supervises: Senior Manager of Annual Fund and Membership (with a direct marketing consulting reporting to this position), Prospect Research Manager (with Database Coordinator reporting to this position), Annual Fund Manager, and a Development Assistant (shared with the Corporate Team). This position will strategically oversee prospect research and the database and proactively expand the Museum's robust fundraising program. The Director of Individual Giving will also lead 'mini campaigns' within the Campaign as well as an organic portfolio of prospects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds, oversees, and monitors strategies to achieve Individual Giving goals as part of the Academy Museum's annual fundraising program
  • Works closely with the Deputy Director, Advancement Team and volunteer leadership, deploying them as necessary to cultivate and solicit gifts, as well as steward current donors
  • Leads prospect activity for his/her portfolio as well as tracking progress of the Advancement Team to ensure well integrated donor stewardship and migration
  • Manages 'mini-campaigns' within the larger Campaign including working with committees and developing necessary solicitation material
  • Leads and refines systems to track performance metrics and increase pipeline development, including strategic use of research
  • Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations and stewardship
  • Initiates contacts with potential Annual Fund leadership and major gift donors
  • Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation, gift closure and stewardship
  • Supervises the creation and implementation of a new membership program with the Manager of Annual Fund and Membership and a direct marketing consultant
  • Supervises the creation and implementation of a new Planned Giving program
  • Supports the completion of the Campaign by managing a small number of individual prospects.
  • Oversees the Advancement Department's annual budget
 
Position Requirements
  • 7 – 10 years successful progressive experience in fundraising from individuals.
  • Shown success in raising multiple five to seven figure gifts.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising.
  • Knowledge of Planned Giving Vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of Annual Fund and Membership programs. Previous experience working with a direct marketing agency preferred.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Successful experience supervising staff including knowledge of metrics-based moves management.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills.
  • Knowledge of SalesForce CRM a plus.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
