Job Summary:

The Manager of Maintenance oversees a broad range of responsibilities to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable environment to the guests and staff of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (AMMP). Integral to the operations of this world-class museum, the Manager will develop, train, and oversee a dynamic general maintenance and custodial services department. The incumbent in this position will also undertake a range of administrative and project driven tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the maintenance of the museum’s facilities, including custodial and grounds.
  • Hire, train, and manage the custodial staff, including the review and evaluation of work assignments.
  • Develop and oversee preventative and routine maintenance plans and schedules appropriate personnel and vendors for maintaining the safety, utility, and appearance of the museum facility.
  • Prepare work orders and review the work of staff and outside contractors and inspect for completion of work.
  • Acts as liaison to services vendors including lift equipment maintenance, window washing, pest control service, and other providers.
  • Develops training and safety programs and operating manuals for a broad range of facilities and custodial tasks.
  • Assist with procurement and ordering of essential supplies for the regular maintenance of building systems and custodial tasks.
  • Organize and file appropriate documentation to ensure compliance for regulatory compliance with appropriate government agencies.
  • Create and maintain a directory of vendors including bid and work histories.
  • Coordinate maintenance and custodial work with internal resources.
  • Assist with developing budgets for areas under supervision include for consumable supplies, major repairs and upgrades, vendor contracts, and staffing costs.
  • Provide essential facilities staff support at Public Programs and events.
  • Perform regular performance assessments for all personnel under supervision.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
 
Position Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a museum or similar public cultural environment.
  • 5 years of experience working in facilities and dealing with a range of service vendors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Should have working knowledge of Title 24, ADA, and Cal/OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of safety and hazard procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices applicable to shops or construction sites.
  • Proficient use of standard office software and work order systems; familiarity with BMS systems a big plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye to organizing data.
  • Excellent customer service skills; must possess “can do” attitude.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid driver’s license, have proof of insurance, and a good driving record.
  • Work outside of normal work hours is required for major museum events.
  • Ability to lift and/or move a minimum of 20 pounds.
