POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Engineer position is located at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). The position provides technical electrical engineering support to the Capital Improvements Core; Engineering and Design Department; and NAVFAC.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide electrical engineering and design services to all activities and tenants for a broad range of facilities served by NAVFAC.
  • Perform design analyses and calculations for electrical projects.
  • Prepare final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and project specifications for various facility types. Analyze and design extensive electrical alterations and modifications to existing facilities.
  • Develop complex designs and analyses utilizing advanced electrical engineering software.
  • Support Asset Management.
  • Coordinate activities with other engineers and architects, including Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects.
  • Temporarily assume responsibility for routine supervisory functions in the absence of a Supervisor.
  • Act as a Design Manager and perform technical administration of design, design management, and coordination efforts with other engineers and architects involved in multi-discipline projects.
  • Identify areas or risk associated with design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives.
  • Convene, attend, or chair meetings to determine the optimum course of action to resolve issues or concerns.
  • Act as the focal point for submittal review and ensure that comments are resolved and incorporated into the design.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, samples of materials and components, catalog information, certificates of compliance, Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECPs), and provide technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Make recommendations for corrective/preventative measures as appropriate, and prepare sketches or change order drawings, cost estimates, and specifications.
 
Position Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient with the use of the Whole Building Design Guide (WBGD), current AutoCAD software, electrical design/analysis software, and SpecIntact technologies.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is highly desirable. If registration has not been obtained, it is expected that the minimum education and professional experience requirements have been met.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical engineering discipline with minimum 10 years of design experience.
  • Skilled in oral, written, and graphic communication.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project) and other computer skills used to develop RFP packages.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
