Description

PURPOSE:
Provide trauma informed supervision and training for Registered Nurses while overseeing a range of administrative and clinical activities in support of running a safe and therapeutic milieu. Ensure licensure and training is in accordance with KMHS policy and associated WACs. Work collaboratively with team in carrying out treatment plans and objectives from time of admission to discharge. Improve the operations of KMHS in support of its stated mission. Provide the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers, while providing supervision to the KMHS nursing staff. Actively participate as a member of the Evaluation and Treatment Center's management and treatment teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • As a member of the KMHS Management Team, hire, train, coach, develop, evaluate with timely performance appraisals, discipline and if necessary discharge direct supervisees. Comply with all agency personnel policies. Support and comply with the KMHS affirmative action program.
  • Oversee nursing staff schedule management in support of 24- hour services for the people we serve.
  • Will take emergent calls as needed to consult or relay urgent information regarding nursing concerns, and respond within 30 minutes.
  • Participate in the Inpatient Centers budget development and monitoring process. Work with the management team and Chief Financial Officer to negotiate and maintain related contracts.
  • Participate in KMHS Management and Leadership Team to ensure the safety and quality of the care given to the clients and our community.
  • Participate as a team member in administrative, treatment, staff, training, and supervisory meetings as required including but not limited to Quality Program Reviews, Quality Assurance, and inpatient utilization review.
  • Work diligently to foster open and collaborative communications with all staff, other agency departments, Harrison Medical Center, Salish Behavioral Health Organization, and relevant external agencies to ensure continuity of the agency's mission statement, treatment philosophies and care for our patients.
  • Supervise the day-to-day clinical operations of inpatient nursing services. Provide hands on training and guidance to foster the leadership qualities in all supervisees to ensure competence in their role of shift nurse and certified nursing assistant medication technician. Monitor in-service training for all inpatient nursing staff.
  • Assist in the orientation of nursing students who utilize the Inpatient Center as a practicum site. Collaborate with the nursing program's instructor regarding scheduling, program description and in obtaining signed confidentiality statements.
  • Supervise and participate in shift activities including regular attendance in pass-downs, Treatment Team meetings and clinical discussions for inpatient units. Ensure coordination of nursing services with staff physicians. Maintain awareness of activity on the inpatient units and facilitate continuity of care across disciplines and between shifts according to all recognized department and agency policies and procedures.
  • Work with the inpatient management team to develop, update and implement policies and procedures that maintain quality nursing standards and regulatory compliance regarding ordering, storing and utilizing medications, equipment and other necessary nursing supplies, dispensing medication, inpatient physical care responsibilities, pharmaceutical and laboratory service and others as needed. Maximize safety standards while monitoring reimbursements and containing costs.
  • Monitor and order all supplies needed by the nursing team as well as the providers.
  • Accurate accounting of all Health Care Entity supplies. Ordering of all HCE medications as well as maintaining accurate and concise documentation of all HCE medication ordered and administered in compliance with the WAC, DOH pharmacy laws and regulations. Including all reporting to the DEA and the pharmacist in charge.
  • Provide respect and dignity to all internal and external clients.
  • Assist the DOH, DBHR, and other outside entities while on campus for inspections, audits or other visits. Facilitate clear, concise and timely corrective actions upon request. Develop and implement protocols for any corrective action needed in providing the clients and community with exceptional care from our agency.
  • Monitor the quality of service provided by medical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services.
  • Ensure the timely and correct recording of all nursing notes via monitoring timeliness reports, medications, vital signs, lab results, physician orders, and other inpatient nursing treatment issues in patient records.
  • Ensure agency critical incident procedures followed. Lead and train staff to ensure debriefings routinely follow critical incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with the Department of Health Facilities and Services standards of care. Provide point of contact assistance with on-site audits. Provide compliance- related correspondence to the 24- hour Services Director and Quality Assurance Director.
  • Maintain knowledge of proposed and current WISHA/OSHA regulations, coordinate and provide training for staff as required.
  • Substitute for Program Manager and 24-7 Services Director as requested.
  • Disclose limited client information as necessary to the position as trained by the Records Dept. Supervisor. Disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in detail according to agency policy and procedures. Complete all required training and annual refreshers.

SUPERVISES: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nurse Assistant Medication Technicians - inpatient, on-call (PACT RN's with regard to nursing specific facets).

 
Position Requirements

Current Washington RN license with Master’s degree. Must meet the definition of a Mental Health Professional. A Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience and 5 years working in an inpatient psychiatric setting with both adults and adolescents.
