SOC Mental Health Professional

Job Description

Overview: Key member of Systems of Care Planning and Implementation team, with a focus on screening, coordinated care planning, and service delivery to children and youth in the Tribal community. Responsible for providing crisis response and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults and families. Deliver culturally relevant and quality services within the framework of the mental health recovery model. Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, and does related work as required.

Essential Functions of Job

  • Works with Systems of Care (SOC) Planning Team to design an effective, culturally relevant care coordination team model;
  • Performs culturally sensitive developmental and behavioral screening of referred children and youth;
  • Collaborates with members of the SOC Care Coordination Team to create a culturally appropriate Individualized Success Plan for each child and youth screened;
  • Provides trainings to SOC staff as needed;
  • Conducts group sessions with SOC clients and their families;
  • Assists in the coordination of a monthly parent/youth client informational night;
  • Assists in design and collection of data concerning child and youth mental health demographics;
  • Provides mental health perspective in design and completion of SOC Implementation plan;
  • Provides culturally relevant individual and family counseling and related mental health services to individuals enrolled in programs at Lower Elwha Mental Health (LEMH) and/or its affiliates;
  • Promotes the mental health recovery model and integrates recovery principles into clinical practice;
  • Performs intake interviews/assessments and collects and processes psycho-social data from participants, families, peers and others as appropriate;
  • Develops, maintains, implements crisis and treatment plans with participant’s input with a focus on building upon strengths;
  • Provides advocacy, support services, information and referral, and wrap-around services in an out-patient setting. Advocates and facilitates the delivery of medical/Psychiatric, housing, employment, and educational services;
  • Ensures prompt, accurate clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notations and psychiatric/special populations consults in assigned participant files; preparation and appropriate filing of treatment contracts, letters, referrals, discharge summaries of terminated participants;
  • Performs work according to established LEMH policies and procedures. Performs clinical work in an efficient and competent manner and works to achieve LEMH productivity and quality standards. Schedules, coordinates, and manages services to assigned participants;
  • Maintains all program files in a professional and efficient manner according to procedures outlined in the LEMH clinical manuals and in accordance with WAC (Washington Administrative Code);
  • Participates in staff meetings, consultations, enrollee presentations, and training programs. Follows through on staffing recommendations for participants;
  • Consults with psychiatric providers, healthcare providers, special populations’ consultants, chemical dependency and other professionals, as needed;
  • Establishes a working relationship with the Department of Social and Health Services, Social Security Administration, criminal justice personnel and other systems as appropriate;
  • Participates in establishing branch goals and objectives;
  • Maintains a professional image within the community at all times;
  • Places professional ethics and integrity before personalities of participant, co-workers or the professional community;
  • Serves on LEMH committees as assigned. Participates in activities and related community support services as requested; and
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Minimum Required Training and Experience (Knowledge)
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a health related field, such as social work or psychology. Mental Health Professional credential necessary.
  • Training in therapy to children and/or adolescents highly desirable. Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS) credential preferred.
  • At least one-year experience providing screening, assessment, and counseling and/or group services to individuals and their families.
  • Experience working with multi-ethnic and multi-age populations of all socio-economic strata in outreach, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy skills. Ethnic Minority Mental Health Specialist qualification with AI/AN population preferred
  • Experience in addressing issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, and chemical dependency highly desirable. Possesses a working knowledge of mental health treatment facilities and their treatment modalities in Clallam County and throughout Washington State.
  • Professional licensure preferred (LMHC, LMFT, LCSW, etc.)
  • Experience working with “wraparound” concepts desired.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities required by the position
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written, and strong organizational, problem solving and time management skills;
  • Demonstrable ability to accurately manage scheduling, utilize software, and document client interactions;
  • Ability to observe and record information including non-verbal information;
  • Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community;
  • Ability to pass a physical exam every two years and a TB test yearly;
  • Ability to comply with department and Tribal policies and procedures;
  • Capability to maintain computer database and ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software;
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with tribal members, officials, employers, and other government agencies;
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and maintain confidentiality;
  • Knowledge of community resources, education services, and workforce;
  • Ability to be an effective positive role model for clients;
  • Ability to work with a diverse and often challenging client base in a manner that is supportive, assertive, and respectful.

Physical Requirements

  • Stamina to work 40 hours per week seated at a desk/computer station.
  • Working with hands, finger in computer typing; stretching, bending, and lifting as needed in job duties.
  • Other Requirements
  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER ELWHA KLALLAM TRIBE Drug Free Workplace policies.
  • Must have UA testing prior to employment
  • There will be occasional travel, and night meetings that might be required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.
