Engagement Specialist (Community Integration Services) 

About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment services offer evidence-based treatment, using trauma informed care to help people reach their recovery goals. We offer whole person care through mental health and substance use treatment and care management, close care coordination with on-campus and community-based primary care providers, and with partner PCHS, now offer dental care to KMHS clients and the community. Many community partners assure people receive behavioral health care in the right place, in the right way, at the right time. Together we are weaving a web that connects emergency room and hospitals, substance abuse treatment, and primary care providers; creates partnerships for early intervention at home and school, supports multiple law enforcement, jail, and justice endeavors, and works to ensure housing, food, and other social supports together with social service agencies and community collaborations.

Observe and monitor client attendance and progress at the Oasis Support Center and to act as clinical liaison with other outpatient services including Adult Outpatient Care teams, and Community Integration Services. To enhance the safety and security of adult outpatient program areas.


  • Establish meaningful rapport with clients in the Oasis Support Center based on the mutual respect inherent in adult-to-adult relationships.
  • Encourage and promote participation in College of Recovery and Community Integration activities as part of clients’ recovery process.
  • Monitor Oasis Support Center and surrounding areas, including main lobby as needed, for potential crisis situations and determine appropriate level of response.
  • Provide crisis intervention and problem solving for clients in the Oasis Support Center, main lobby, and other adult outpatient program areas to avert need for higher level response (e.g., alarm codes, Crisis Response Team).
  • Provide input on potential security issues to Security Committee as appropriate.
  • Attend clinical team meetings and provide input on treatment options, based on interactions and observations with clients who attend the Oasis Support Center.
  • Monitor client attendance and progress, documenting significant events and trends.
  • Provide back-up coverage for staff responsible for oversight of Oasis Café and lunch program.
  • Develop working knowledge of community resources and share this knowledge with clients as deemed useful and appropriate.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: An AA in Human Services with at least one year of relevant experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be flexible, high energy, creative, and have the ability to manage multiple tasks.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or listen. Requires the ability to lift 25 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position.
