Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager is an integral part of the Finance Office. Reporting to VP for Finance, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for all aspects of accounting. The Accounting Manager will be directly responsible for completing financial reports, annual audit, internal control, fiscal policies and procedures, management of general ledger, and overseeing day-to-day operations of accounting functions. The Accounting Manager position is hands-on, full time, year-round position with competitive salary.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Manage, prepare and monitor all day-to-day accounting transactions of the organization.

  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls. Responsible for ensuring that the School's internal control systems are continuously improved.

  • Responsible for processing financial transactions related to the Office of Advancement including cash log, reconciliation of contributions and pledges. Maintain subsidiary journals for contributions and endowments. Monitor investments and prepare analyses of investment activities. Report on unrestricted, temporarily restricted and permanently restricted assets; collaborating with the Office of Advancement to correctly record gifts and pledges.

  • Ensure timely preparation of monthly and quarterly general ledger reconciliations and analyses.

  • Manage banking activities. Review monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Manage month-end close including processing of adjusting and closing journal entries.

  • Generate monthly financial statements, and produce account analyses.

  • Maintain Construction in Progress (CIP) sub-ledgers. Manage Fixed Assets accounting functions.

  • Develop and upgrade accounting procedures and systems as appropriate to ensure the most efficient and effective methods of financial data preparation.

  • Prepare for annual audit and ensure timely and accurate completion of all audit processes.

  • Assist with preparation of the operating and capital budgets. Provide special and routine reports on budget execution.

  • Ensure compliance with IRS, GAAP reporting requirements, Federal and State regulations.

  • Collaborate with the VP for Finance to prepare financial models and trends analyses to assist with School's financial planning.

  • Attend Board's Committee meetings when requested.

  • Initiate and propose cost-effective initiatives.

Position Requirements

Requirements:

  • CPA, strong plus

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting required; MBA preferred

  • 5 years of managerial experience

  • Effective decision making skills

  • Highly organized

  • Excellent financial analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills

Other Qualifications & Skills:

  • Be able to work collaboratively and proactively in a dynamic and fast paced environment with changing priorities

Computer Skills: Advanced Excel skills, excellent Computer skills and proficiency with computerized accounting software.
