Sustainment Test Engineer

Overview
This a newly created position will support production and repair operations reporting to the engineering management. Extant Aerospace has product offerings with an extremely diverse background from Analog, Digital, and RF technology spanning multiple decades (i.e. 1970's onward).

Core Responsibility
The candidate's core responsibility will be calibrating, repairing, sustaining, and developing preventative approaches for all test equipment and associated computer systems. The scope of work excludes environmental test equipment (i.e. Thermal, Vibe, etc) but familiarity is required.

Requirements

  • Possess a unique skillset and have knowledge in both the test hardware and test software environment.
  • Ability to assess current test methodologies and develop/execute plans for product test improvement without the need for supervision in a timely manner.
  • Ability to analyze schematics and troubleshoot test set problems to the component level.
  • Ability to multitask a variety of concurrent activities and complete each per the defined deadline while keeping management updated with progress along the way.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of test and measurement instruments and the knowledge to perform accurate measurements. Equipment examples are oscilloscopes, DMM's, AC/DC Power sources, function generators, Hipot testers, Megohmmeters, Micro Ohmmeters, RF power meters/sensors, RF sources, RF Spectrum Analyzers & RF Network Analyzers, etc.
  • Experience working with high-voltage and high current products and test equipment.
  • For the calibration and repair of custom test equipment candidate should be mechanically inclined and must have an understanding of how to build & repair equipment for longevity in a production environment.
  • Familiarly with different software languages: C/C++, Labview, Labwindows, Visual Basic/Basic, Borland C, Borland C++, Test Stand, 16 bit, 32 bit, and 64 bit environments.
  • Working Knowledge of a wide array of computer operating systems: DOS 5/6, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, 7, UNIX, and VAX/VMS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer hardware such as motherboards, single board computers, passive/active backplanes, hard disks, NICs, memory, BIOS settings, video cards, and other common computer peripherals.
  • Experience configuring standardized networks such as Thinnet, Thicknet and Twisted Pair.
  • Familiar with Boundary Scan equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of communications standards such as MIL-STD-1553A/B, ARINC-429, RS-232/422/485, Fiber channel, ISDN, USB1/2, CAN, and the physical layer hardware associated with these standards such as bus couplers, transformer and direct coupled connection, RS-232/422/485 and other converters.
  • Familiar with signal modulation techniques such as ASK, FSK, and PSK, etc.
  • Familiar with in system programming and debug hardware such as emulators, JTAG Byte Blasters, Xilinx and Altera pods.
  • Familiarity with video test equipment, video sources, and standards and formats such as NTSC, PAL, RS-343, STANAG 3350.
  • Candidate must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within an organization.
  • Hands on experience in the Avionics Electronics environment in the testing and troubleshooting of both test sets and products.
  • Bachelors in a technical discipline required; plus a minimum of 10 years direct industry experience' or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
