The Senior Spanish Linguist must:

  • Possess a keen sensitivity to sociolinguistic and cultural references, as well as be a well-educated native listener and speaker;
  • Read all styles and forms whether printed or in reasonably legible handwriting;
  • Read between the lines, follow unpredictable turns of thought and offer reasoned analysis;
  • Write in a variety of prose styles about varied topics with rare errors;
  • Tailor language to fit an audience, persuade, debate and represent a point of view;
  • Provide interpreter support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Senior Linguists assist in the quality control of linguist production services by:

  • Conducting periodic reviews and evaluations of translated documents;
  • Providing comments, corrections, and recommendations for translated material;
  • Delegating tasks according to a linguist's knowledge and abilities;
  • Clarifying expectations of responsibilities for supported linguists;
  • Communicating effectively and readily sharing expertise with others;
  • Developing appropriate training aids for continuous output improvement;
  • Identifying areas of weakness and providing solutions for improvement;
  • Identifying training opportunities and requirements;
  • Identifying needed resources to improve operational capabilities;
  • Acting as a representative at training opportunities, IC forums, and Linguist/Translation Working Groups, thus playing an active role in the IC to understand and incorporate IC language and transliteration standards into the client’s practices and operations.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of consecutive interpretation experience.
  • Must have experience interpreting at formal conferences.
  • Must be able to pass language tests in both Spanish and English in Reading, Writing, and Listening with Advanced Professional Proficiency (4 or higher).
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and using a computer and related devices.
  • Must have experience in word processing, typing, editing, and using office machines.
  • Must possess knowledge of the U.S. Intelligence Community and maintain expertise and familiarity with the translation industry standards for quality translations.
  • Must have the physical and mental capacity to function in a high operational tempo and crisis situations.
  • Must be able and willing to live and work in austere conditions, if the need requires.
