About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Description

Fenway Health is New England’s premiere provider of healthcare to the LGBT community. It is both a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home and a Joint Commission accredited Federally Qualified Health Center. We offer competitive salaries and a compelling patient mix.

The Infection Control Officer is responsible for Fenway Health’s Infection Control Program. The Officer will investigate, surveil, control, and prevent clinic-borne infections in Fenway’s patients and employees. He/she has the responsibility to educate all levels of clinical personnel and other health care workers regarding best infection control practices. The Infection Control Officer position may be considered as a part-time position for qualified candidates.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  1. Directs prevention and control of the transmission of infectious agents
  2. Oversees cleaning, sterilization, disinfection, and asepsis procedures
  3. Assists with fulfillment of Environment of Care (EOC) mission of the organization
  4. Directs Infection Control education and communications
  5. Conducts surveillance and epidemiologic investigation
  6. Develops Infection Control budget, together with the Executive Director of Nursing, the Medical Operations Director, and the Chief Financial Officer
  7. Revises and maintains the organization’s infection control policies and procedures

    Position Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration

    1. Education: Bachelor’s level or higher is required
    2. Current Massachusetts RN/RDH/MT license and/or MPH degree required
    3. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) strongly preferred; alternatively, candidate can be eligible for certification and to obtain CIC within 2 years from date of hire.
    4. At least two years’ experience with all of the following is required
      1. Identification of infectious disease processes
      2. Surveillance and epidemiologic investigation
      3. Preventing and controlling the transmission of infectious agents
    5. Detail orientation, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and work autonomously are required
    6. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are required
