Activity Specialist - Queens HS for Language Studies

Position Title: Activity Specialist, After School Advancement Program (ASAP)

Location: Queens High School for Language Studies, 35-01 Union Street, Flushing, NY 11354

Schedule: Full Time, 35 hours per week

Program Overview

The After School Advancement Program (ASAP) at Queens High School for Language Studies offers academic enrichment activities, project-based experiential learning, and individualized guidance and counseling. ASAP develops each participant's core skills, builds confidence and resilience, and provides access to supports that benefit individuals and their families. The program's goal is for participants to achieve academic success, graduate from high school, pursue their post-secondary and/or career interests, and ultimately become self-sufficient young adults.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The Activity Specialist will report directly to the Program Director of ASAP.

  • Assist with the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of program participants
  • Provide individual counseling for program participants on a monthly basis, with case note management
  • Develop and facilitate informative and interactive workshops to related to positive, holistic youth development
  • Coordinate the scheduling of guest speakers, community service opportunities, and field trips (e.g., college visits, recreational activities) within program guidelines
  • Provide support in overseeing homework help and tutoring services
  • Maintain participant files/programmatic documents; track attendance and progress; compile program reports
  • Table at PTA meetings and parent-teacher conferences to engage families; assist with creating news articles about ASAP's progress
  • Attend meetings and professional development trainings as required by CPC and funders
  • Report to, and fulfill other related duties as outlined by the Program Director

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience working with High School youth in an after-school setting
  • Quick learner and multi-tasker who takes initiative and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent facilitation, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Culturally competent professional with a strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for empowering diverse populations
  • Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is a plus
