POSITION SUMMARY: BASIC FUNCTION

The Critical Facilities Engineering & Design team services all phases of a project including Conceptual Planning, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration services through Project Completion and Transition to Operations.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a member of the Critical Facilities Engineering & Design team and a contributor to the overall Design/Build/Operate effort. This person will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering, and will work directly with other CFE&D design discipline professionals, as well as collaborate closely with outsourced Architects, Engineers, and other design consultants. This person will also provide CFE&D support to other internal departments at RagingWire.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated team player with excellent communication skills and attention to detail with a desire to contribute and grow professionally at all levels. This person should possess excellent computer skills to meet project requirements and objectives and be able to work well with a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on creating and maintaining the best Data Center environments possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve in a project leadership role for Electrical Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Document processes under the direction of the Director of Electrical Engineering
  • Assist with the development of electrical equipment and equipment monitoring specifications
  • Collaborate closely with outsourced Architects, Engineers, and other design consultants to ensure design concepts and product selection align with RagingWire's strategic goals for developing and operating cost effective, highly efficient and reliable Data Centers
  • Provide CFE&D support to other organization sectors internal to RagingWire, including CFOps, Construction, Commissioning, Client Services, and Sales
  • Represent CFE&D as a Primary or Secondary Electrical Project Specialist for selected Data Center sites
  • Collaborate with RagingWire's Construction team to ensure design deliverables meet project schedules
  • Support CFOps to troubleshoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design related problems affecting efficient and resilient site operations
  • Support CFOps in review of operating procedures and maintenance initiatives
  • Assist internal teams with quality control over design and commissioning documentation, including but not limited to construction drawings, submittals, and commissioning test scripts
  • Work with local authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes
  • Participate in factory witness testing of new equipment
  • Conduct review and approval of equipment submittals
  • Assist engineers and commissioning agents to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical and building systems
  • Conduct engineering calculations and studies
  • Conduct electrical system modeling using AmpCalc, ETAP, and other electrical design software
  • Monitor and evaluate load distribution and failover loading
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of electrical equipment
  • Conduct product, systems, and material research
  • Draft and revise AutoCAD and Revit drawings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Be positive and strive to offer creative, out of the box solutions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical system design and power distribution in Data Centers
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA 72 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and other related codes and standards for electrical design of Data Centers
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Life Safety, IBC and OSHA codes and standards
  • In-depth understanding of critical Data Center electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, electrical engineering software and Bluebeam PDF editing software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with individuals and groups both internally and externally
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Organized and have the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budgets
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information
  • Ability to manage stress and/or fast-pace work environment

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Engineering license achievement
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Minimum 8 years of direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical Data Centers
  • Experience directly related to Data Center design
  • Direct experience with construction, operation, or maintenance of Data Centers
  • Experience with large scale technical operations
  • Experience with vendor negotiation and management
  • Prior experience leading an engineering project design team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments
  • Requires ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment with extensive daily usage of a computer.
  • Occasional field work in electrical and mechanical infrastructure rooms, data floor spaces, rooftops and construction sites

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional travel required
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours at times, including weekends, late nights, and holidays
  • Extended hours may be significant at times
  • Carry a cell phone to be available in emergency situations
  • Ability and willingness to respond to emails after hours in the event of an emergency, and at times during extended hours
