Independent Living Skills Counselor (34hrs/wk) - Youth Adult Transition Program 

About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

Inpatient, residential, and outpatient treatment services offer evidence-based treatment, using trauma informed care to help people reach their recovery goals. Many community partners assure people receive behavioral health care in the right place, in the right way, at the right time. Location Kitsap Mental Health Services (Sheridan Campus)  

Provide treatment services, Independent Living Skills training and support to youth preparing to engage in independent living and/or transitioning to adult mental health services.


  • Provide ILS evaluation for youth and follow through with ILS skill building.
  • Provide face to face care coordination, independent living skill building and individual therapy to youth in the community or office setting as assigned.
  • Provide group on a variety of topics related to independent living and/or transitioning to adult services.
  • Be available to provide services, run groups, or provide therapy during evening hours.
  • Participate in the development of individual treatment plan for each YATT youth. Maintain appropriate records and complete documentation in an accurate and timely manner for all assigned clients. .
  • Collaborate with YATT and Child and Family team members within your role including, community partners, vocational supports, colleges/trade schools, schools, doctors, assigned therapists or care coordinators, psychiatrists, case workers, probation officers, bio-parents, foster parents, Inpatient Units, other such community resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in Child and Family team meetings, clinical consultation, and YATT team meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Function as a supportive member of the team and participate constructively in problem solving. Promote teamwork atmosphere.
  • Provide crisis intervention services when necessary and be available by pager or cell phone to provide support to the youth.
  • Participate in program development and implementation as needed.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree considered with experience. Ability to work independently, in the community with clients and within a team setting. Must possess and maintain valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report, and reliable personal transportation with business-rated insurance.
