Sanitation Manager 

About the Organization American Nutrition Inc is a manufacturer of 3 product lines of pet food - dry kibble, baked treats and canned wet. Based out of Ogden, Utah American Nutrition has 4 plants across the US. Ogden, Utah is 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City. The area is in the heart of snow skiing, hiking and other outdoor recreational activity while being near a major city.

Minimum Background (Training) Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ experience in related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and sanitation requirements to meet personnel safety, food safety and quality standards
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles
  • Knowledge of GFSI and SQF code/standards and audit system
  • Strong knowledge of acid, alkali and sanitizing chemicals
  • Experience in training sanitation and production personnel
  • Experience with Environmental Monitoring Program
  • Experience related to internal/third-party/customer food safety & quality audits, and regulatory compliance inspections
  • Ability to complete corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for issues related to sanitation, identify root causes and ability to follow up
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite
Position Requirements

Job Description and Responsibilities:


  • Manage the Sanitation Program to meet SQF Food Safety Code requirements
  • Lead and direct the team of sanitation employees
  • Work closely with the Plant Manager, Food Safety Manager and Quality Assurance Manager on continuous improvement across the facility and sanitation based lean initiatives
  • Ensure staff are properly trained on chemical safety, use of sanitation equipment, sanitation procedures and company policies
  • Create, update and maintain Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
  • Develop and provide training assessments on performing SSOPs
  • Provide input and leadership on sanitary design of equipment and building changes or capital projects to the Engineering and Food Safety Departments
  • Manage chemical and cleaning supply inventories
  • Manage the Integrated Pest Management program
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a schedule-driven shift environment with a customer service orientation to support plant operations
  • Pre-employment drug screening, skills test and background check required
  • Must follow current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), policies & procedures pertaining to food safety, and other company policies
  • Must report food safety and quality issues to personnel with authority to initiate action • Job will generally be performed in a manufacturing environment
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs, travel on manlifts, climb ladders and walk plant floors that could exceed one mile of travel per day
  • The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching, and crouching
  • Must have command of all five senses, sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms
  • Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds as required • Must be able to understand and follow work instructions in English
