Digital Archive Cataloger

Job Summary:

The Digital Archive Cataloger works under the direction of the Digital Archivist in performing all metadata-related functions in the Library's Collection Management system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Original cataloging of recently digitized materials and conducting research on personal names, corporate names, subject headings, and genres as needed.
  • Quality control of cataloging performed by others.
  • Data cleanup of existing records.
  • Selecting born-digital images from current and recent events and programs; preparing born-digital images for upload to the Media Asset Management System.
 
Position Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Minimum of 2 years recent cataloging experience. Experience cataloging in a digital asset management system or media asset management system preferred.
  • Experience cataloging using authoritative standards and subject headings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain vocabularies for asset description and retrieval.
  • Working knowledge of data structure standards and metadata schema such as Dublin Core, VRA, CDWA, IPTC/XMP, RDA.
  • Proficiency using Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, or other photo editing software.
  • Knowledge of film history and ability to recognize and identify current key industry figures.
  • Ability to identify a variety of photographic processes and techniques.
  • Understanding of proper handling of photographic and archival materials.
  • Must be organized with the ability to work independently and collaboratively while paying close attention to detail and accuracy.
