About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

SHIFT: Fri-Mon 3pm-11:30pm

Provide clinical treatment and management for Residential Services clients in need of services due to symptoms of mental illness, and to their families as necessary and appropriate. To coordinate and monitor all shift activities, including completing shift assignments and implementing treatment plans per guidelines set by clinical management.


  • Work with Swing staff to help provide client groups, transportation, and/or whatever is needed for client care.
  • Assist in coordinating, improving and implementing agency treatment philosophy, program goals and activities. Provide a therapeutic environment per program standards and resident treatment plan, including skills-development and transportation of residents as required.
  • Coordinate and lead resident activities during shift as defined by treatment plans, program goals and unit policy, including supervision and care of all residents. Coordinate shift responsibilities with other residential counselors and/or on-call staff.
  • Work closely with team members to provide crisis stabilization and support services to individuals as determined necessary by CRT. Maintain contact with clinical supervisor and CRT staff. Report salient observations of client mental status; conditions posing increased risk for clients, staff or others; indications of deteriorating of client stability, or of improvement such that unit level of services are no longer necessary.
  • Facilitate assigned admissions and discharges with clients. Thoroughly complete all paperwork and emails required.
  • Maintain knowledge of clients’ whereabouts and ensure safety. Take appropriate action when clients are missing, ill, injured, or otherwise physically and/or psychiatrically impaired.
  • Facilitate communication between shifts regarding residents and program operations. Document specifically using client voice and to treatment goals. Maintain electronic passdown record.
  • Efficiently and effectively carry out routine evolutions during shift, including food preparation, food serving, cleaning, and maintenance of a safe and healthful environment.
  • Provide individual, group milieu, and family meetings as required.
  • Complete and submit required paperwork per all applicable requirements. Stay up to date on all required trainings.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records, including admission paperwork, electronic referrals, assessments, treatment plan development and implementation, monitoring Adult Daily Living Skills, enforcing individual contracts/LRAs, daily charting, and discharges as required. Perform daily electronic charting as required. Document unusual events on incident reports in a timely manner and consult with clinical supervisor regarding required course of action.
  • Participate in consultation, education, and training of KMHS staff and others regarding appropriate clinical issues specific to resident(s) and appropriate to treatment issues.
  • Communicate professionally and in a caring way with all staff and clients at KMHS and in our residential program.
  • Perform random UAs, to test for ETOH use and provide medication observation services to clients in accordance with program procedures and WACs.
  • As appropriate, model, direct, assist, and teach residents in-home and independent living skills per program requirements and individual treatment goals and supervise clients on outings as appropriate.
  • Arrange for supplemental/substitute staff coverage per unit guidelines, including supervisory approval, as necessary.
  • Participate in development of transitional planning for residents graduating to community supported/independent living.
  • Actively participate in all Residential Services team improvement and attend all staff meetings. Meet regularly with Clinical Supervisor.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
Position Requirements

Associate's degree in social sciences or related field and one year experience working with the chronically mentally ill population, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Residential experience preferred. Valid Washington State Drivers License required.
