Description

PURPOSE:
Provide clinical assistance and management services for residents of Keller House, as assigned and assume responsibilities for services of assigned clients. Keller residents suffer from severe impairment in psychosocial functioning and treatment, which cannot be safely provided in a less restrictive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist in providing a therapeutic environment in accordance with agency treatment philosophy, program goals and activities.
  • Complete assigned responsibilities of the shift through working together with the other residential counselor and/or on-call staff. Work to keep the unit and staff work areas clean and tidy.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative professional relationships and communications with all staff.
  • Work to provide great customer service and stabilization/transition/support services to clients.
  • Report, as needed, with Crisis Response Team (CRT) and clinical supervision staff salient observations of the client's mental status; conditions which may result in the client, staff or others being at risk; indications of continuing deterioration of the client's mental stability or indications of improvement such that unit level of services is no longer needed.
  • Maintain client safety and responsibility for knowing whereabouts of clients, including taking appropriate action when clients are missing, ill, injured or otherwise physically and/or psychiatrically impaired. Call security when backup is needed.
  • Document specifically, using client voice whenever interactions and any unusual events take place on NOC shift. Provide timely appropriate documentation of unusual events on incident reports and consult with appropriate agency personnel regarding the required course of action.
  • Provide professional thorough communication of information between shifts regarding residents and program operations.
  • Maintain and add appropriate clinical records including: setting up electronic daily notes with posted treatment and behavior goals, admissions, assessments, treatment plan implementation, monitoring Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, enforcing individual contracts/LRAs, daily charting and discharges as required.
  • Coordinate and lead resident activities during shift as defined by the residential treatment plan and program goals for each resident. This may include supervision and care of all residents, leading groups, and skills-building with individual residents.
  • Actively participate in Residential Services team improvement and attend all staff meetings. Participate in required training for KMHS staff. Read Treatment Notes regarding appropriate clinical issues specific to resident(s) and appropriate treatment issues.
  • Assure completion and submission of all required paperwork, statistical reporting and charting activities in an accurate and timely manner to satisfy agency, statutory, regulatory and funding requirements
  • Perform random UAs and test for ETOH use and provide medication services to clients in accordance with program procedures and Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) as appropriate.
  • Participate positively and creatively in the performance of routine shift functions, including food preparation, food inventory, cleaning, and the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment.
  • As appropriate, model, direct, assist and teach residents in home and independent living skills according to program requirements and individual treatment goals.
  • Arrange for supplemental/substitute staff coverage per unit guidelines including getting supervisory approval as necessary.
  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Associate's degree in social sciences or related field and one year experience working with the chronically mentally ill population, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  Residential experience preferred.  

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen, and lift up to 25 pounds. This position also requires the ability to physically assist clients who may be physically disabled.
