About the Organization KMHS is Kitsap's nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults.

To provide nursing care and medical supervision to clients and residents in all units of 24-Hours Services (Adult Inpatient Unit, Youth Inpatient Unit, and Residential Services). To apply the nursing process to the care of client and resident. To participate as a member of the therapeutic treatment team.


  • Maintain ongoing examination, monitoring and assessment of clients and residents. Determine if clients and residents are medically stable in order to provide care within the scope of practice of 24-Hours Services at KMHS.

  • Communicate with providers, process their orders and implement them maintaining the highest level of nursing care.

  • Document client and resident care, medication, and treatment administration. Document and relate client and resident progress and mental health goal attainment during stay at the units of 24-Hours Services. Evaluate and monitor client responses to medication, treatments, and plan of care.

  • Administer medications and treatment in a safe manner in accordance to standardized nursing guidelines.Delegate and monitor performance of Residential Counselors.

  • Initiate emergency procedures using technical skills and professional judgment and perform appropriate nursing/medical intervention(s).

  • Train, educate orient, and mentor new nursing staff and RN's on-call.

  • Provide nursing care including interpreting laboratory results, responses to medications, and physical assessment.

  • Delegate the non-nursing tasks to support staff.Coordinate with the shift supervisor for unit safety and other client or resident need.

  • Participate in discharge planning, review of goals of stay, assist in client/resident medication educational needs, etc.

  • Participate in program activities as team member.

  • Respond to current fire drill/evacuation plan with awareness of duties and procedure.

  • Adhere to unit operating and nursing policies and procedures.

  • Serve as mental health professional if qualified.

  • Provide flexible nursing coverage. Rotate and be proficient in the nursing role in all units of 24-Hours Services at KMHS.

  • Disclose limited client information as necessary to the position as trained by the Records Dept. Supervisor. Disclosures must adhere to HIPAA privacy and security standards and be logged in detail according to agency policy and procedures. Complete all required training and annual refreshers.

  • In addition to the above, any other responsibilities appropriate to the position and not specifically listed in the job description.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse in Washington State. Two years RN experience preferred. Two years experience in mental health preferred. Experience in child and adolescent care preferred. Experience in psychiatric environment preferred.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk or listen and lift up to 50 pounds. Peripheral vision is also required for this position. A fair degree of flexibility and strength is required in this position due to the infrequent, yet essential, use of one’s body in the temporary physical restraint of some clients.

Salary $31/hr. + shift differentials
