GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement new orientation and training programs for drivers and safety sensitive functions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with organization leaders to identify training solutions that address negative performance trends.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with Training Director to present quarterly safety training and quarterly safety meetings for employees company-wide.
  • Perform road tests with drivers.
  • Evaluate students individually on their operational skills and assess their progress during each training evaluation in accordance with the curriculum.
  • Counsel students as needed regarding skill issues and adherence to DOT regulations.
  • Train students in areas of weakness through constructive feedback and adult learning processes.
  • Provide customer service training-interacting with passengers.
  • Maintain accurate trainee progress records.
  • Ensure all instructional materials are appropriate and assist in the development, revision and implementation of curriculum in traditional and alternative delivery format.
  • Model and verify safe behaviors.
  • Support the reduction of collision and risk of injury through demonstration and verification of safety requirements when in and around motor coaches.
  • Demonstrate proper equipment maintenance techniques.
 
Position Requirements

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Read, write and speak English fluently. The ability to speak a foreign language would be advantageous.
  • Complete all required paperwork legibly, neatly, and in a timely manner.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, an Associate's Degree preferred
  • Three years of OTR motor coach driving experience required, and five years’ experience training or teaching is preferred.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) compliance requirements.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain current, valid Class B CDL License.
  • Flexible working hours; day, evening and weekends required. Ability to train out-of-state for a minimum of three consecutive nights at a time.
  • Proficient in computer use and applications that support teaching and learning.
  • DOT Physical, DOT Pre-employment Drug Screen and Motor Vehicle Records Check required.
  • Able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, frequent walking and standing required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS

  • Minimum of five years of commercial driving experience and three years OTR motor coach driving experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred and good communication skills required.
  • Five years of experience training or teaching preferred.
