The Energy Service Advisor works to deliver innovative solutions to meet Vermonter's energy needs. This position primarily provides technical assistance, promotion and marketing of Vermont Gas' programs to new and existing customers, including natural gas service and energy efficiency programs. The best Energy Services Advisors are adaptive to a fast-paced environment, self-motivated and genuinely passionate about the energy future of Vermont. They are excellent with people and able to balance the needs of the customer and the company. They possess project management skills with an attention to detail. Problem-solving comes naturally to them and they are confident at troubleshooting and developing innovative solutions to meet customers' needs. They ensure excellent service standards, solicit customer feedback and work to maintain high customer satisfaction.


  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with new and existing residential customers, heating contractors, and when applicable, builders, architects, and consulting engineers.
  • Provides high quality customer service: asks questions, understands concerns, and develops creative, effective solutions to meet customers' needs.
  • Expand natural gas market opportunities, consistent with the company's growth objectives.
  • Responsible for preparing customer contracts and cost estimates of providing new gas service, sale, rental and installation of gas equipment, responding to customer questions regarding natural gas and energy services.
  • Review customer equipment to insure the proper and safe use of natural gas. Coordinate and solicit bids for equipment installations from heating contractors, as required.
  • Promotes VGS Energy Efficiency programs, marketing, service programs, and other programs to customers.
  • Maintain knowledge of new natural gas residential heating equipment and installation procedures, competitor fuel pricing, equipment operating costs and specifications, as well as VGS and National Gas Code regulations. (training is available)
  • Uses technology with skill to make the customer education and sign-up process easy, seamless and effective.
  • Other duties as may be required or requested.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multi task environment balancing phone calls, tasks, email, Salesforce, training, and projects for improving processes.
  • Possess a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve with provided information to resolve customer situations to meet/exceed customers’ expectations.
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy in working with customer information.
  • Clear and effective communicator, a responsive listener, and an efficient collaborator in a way that builds excellent relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment that requires flexibility, constant prioritization and organization. Adapts easily to changing needs of our customers and work environment.
  • Excellent technology skills – must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and the ability to learn new technology systems including Salesforce and customer information system.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment. Reliable and able to work in a team that meets department standards with minimal required supervision. Strong work ethic and a self-starter.

These skills are normally acquired with 2-4 years’ experience in sales and marketing, preferably in the energy or related industries. Salaried position plus bonus.
