Reports to: Member Engagement/Services Officer

Status: Reserve Status, Non-exempt, up to 24 hours per week

Summary

This position supports the work of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in the Member Services department by performing office clerical support duties and/or on-site membership sales at the Museum’s membership kiosk.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Museum Membership Sales

  • Maximize on-site Museum membership sales during peak visitation days - From early November through mid-April this position will rotate with other staff to cover primarily a Friday through Monday, 9am – 3pm, including holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas are peak visitation periods and will require coverage during these holiday periods. Additionally, the position rotates work with other staff during Cool Summer Nights, which include Saturday evenings from 5pm – 8pm, beginning with the final Saturday in May through first Saturday in September.
  • Open and close the Membership Kiosk
  • Welcome members and visitors to the Museum in a friendly and hospitable manner
  • Be proficient in all aspects of membership program including categories, benefits, and details of membership
  • Actively promote and sell memberships to Museum visitors and guests
  • Distribute premiums as appropriate
  • Balance sales with cash, check, and credit cards
  • Account for sales and receipts. Ensure that all transactions are processed quickly and accurately
  • Ensure professional, accurate, and timely communications between Guest Services, Finance, and Membership departments
  • Ensure work area is neat and orderly at all times
  • Maintain current knowledge of pricing structure and discount opportunities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to Museum members and visitors: answer questions, solve problems
  • Know the basic history of the Museum and answers to Frequently Asked Questions. Give accurate general information about the Museum and be knowledgeable about current ASDM Newsletter.
  • Be a mentor and guide to Membership volunteers that may frequently work alongside this position
  • Be able to take direction from and work with the Museum’s Member Service department staff

Office Clerical Support

  • Assists as requested in the coordination and implementation of membership appeals and campaigns including membership acquisitions and renewals, confidential donor and member communications, daily processing of donations and memberships, and maintenance of the donor and member database files.
  • Revises existing membership records.
  • Performs other clerical and customer service functions as required.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proactive sales skills.
  • Customer service expertise.
  • 10-key proficient.
  • Proficient typist.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of Museum members, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting Museum membership, programs, and events.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently and to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Cash handling experience; and manage cash handling duties with 98% accuracy.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Willing to work outside. Must be able to work holidays, weekends and evenings. Hours may fluctuate according to seasonal temperatures and weather.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand while assisting guests.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Hospitable, articulate, patient, responsible, good listener, deadline oriented, and follows through on commitments.
