Certified Stainless Pipe Welders FSTK

REQUIREMENTS

Educational and experience preferences:

  1. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. 5 years experience as certified welder (AISC) and in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program.
  3. Certifications in MIG, Stick & TIG must be current and not more than one year old.
  4. This is a TIG Weld Project. Certified to Weld Stainless Steel.
  5. Take Pipe Welding Qualification Test.

Need to be in possession of, or be able to pass a 6G certification exam.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Lays out, fits, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems, on basis of knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  1. Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
  2. Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
  3. Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
  4. Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, ore gas welding equipment.
  5. May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.
  6. May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools, and be designated Welder, Structural Repair.
  7. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  8. Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
  9. Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using handtools and power tools.
  10. Cuts & threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.
  11. Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.
  12. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic using handtools and power tools. Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
  13. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints. Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints,
  14. Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
  15. Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
  16. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leading.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Workers should be able to: Work within precise standards of accuracy; Rate information using standards which can be measured or checked; Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; look at flat drawings or pictures and understand how they would look as solid objects; and follow oral and written directions, plans, and blueprints. Physically, workers must be able to: See well (either naturally or with correction); Coordinate the movements eyes, hands and fingers; Use hands, arms and fingers fully; Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding; Stoop, kneel, crouch crawl to reach hard to get at work areas or work at heights as required; and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects; and lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds and occasionally more. Completion of apprenticeship program required.

MINIMUM REQUIRED TOOLS

  • Hand tools and power tools to perform above listed typical duties.
