Purpose of Division

The Division of Public Relations is responsible for the public face of the organization-visibility, reputation management, visual identity as well as the corporate website and social media. The division also manages the publishing and distribution of the corporation's premier print and electronic publications, and videos. These include the annual report and specialized e-newsletters such as the NeighborWorks Works and NetWorks (for NeighborWorks organization executive directors, board presidents and their staff). The division also provides graphic design support to other business units throughout the corporation, provides overall content management, site development and design for NeighborWorks America websites, and coordinates the corporation's Web strategy. This involves establishing and implementing corporate-wide policies, strategies and guidelines, and coordinating audience and strategies that guide the corporation's Web presence. Public Relations also coordinates the delivery of related Web-based services to the corporation and the NeighborWorks network.

Position Summary

The Digital Media Designer is responsible for the development and distribution of informational material, across different types of media, illustrating the programs and objectives of NeighborWorks America. The designer ensures that communication products effectively deliver messages to intended audiences, and designs products for both internal and external audiences.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develops photo, video, multimedia and infographics for use on corporate websites, social media channels and internal display screens
  • Assists publishing project manager with print graphics and photography
  • Collaborates with publishing project manager on high-level projects, such as the annual community report
  • Collaborates with the digital media project manager in creating content and design strategies for NeighborWorks America's Facebook, Twitter, blog and other social media channels
  • Designs pages for the public website, as needed, working with the digital media project manager and external developers to produce
  • Assist team members in managing consultants working for the division, including assisting in the development of requests for proposals, writing scopes or work, tracking deliverables, and ensuring completion of contractor evaluations
  • Perform independent research as assigned and present finding, alternatives and recommendations

    Supporting the Network
  • Partners with network organizations by assessing and responding to their design needs, as appropriate
  • Creates custom infographics, published in partnership with the CIS division

    Partnering with Other Divisions
  • Packages and distributes email blasts, such as newsletters and announcements for existing projects and designs templates for new email marketing projects
  • Supports the PPLA division with design materials directed towards legislators
  • Projects manages the design and development of materials for the keynote event of our NeighborWorks Training Institutes, in collaboration with the Training division
  • Supports national partnerships and resource development team through design
  • Supports digital media project manager in content maintenance of the following websites: NeighborWorks.org, network members site and Inside NeighborWorks
  • Assists the director on various projects that have a design component, including PowerPoint presentations for leadership and high-visibility staff
  • Responds to inquiries and communications from interested parties providing them with programmatic information and/or referencing them to the appropriate member of the team for follow up

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Education: Bachelor’s Degree, with 3-5 years of highly responsible design and project management experience preferably in one of the following areas: marketing communications, development communications or public relations; or any combination of relevant training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Design

  • Experience with use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Excellent design skills with emphasis on production in online environments (web, social media, email marketing, visual displays, etc.)
  • Digital photography proficiency
  • Video editing experience is desired, including motion graphics
  • Experience managing a brand and interest in actively making recommendations to strengthen and unify the NeighborWorks identity system
  • Familiarity with designing logos and wordmarks

    Digital
  • Experience designing for the web, knowledge of current best practices in user experience design
  • Knowledge of basic HTML and experience using a content management system
  • Knowledge of social media practices, procedures and resources
  • Ability to quickly learn and use specialized software, including web-based systems. Aptitude for technology and ability to trouble-shoot technical problems a plus

    Project Management
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, monitoring and completing complex tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills demonstrated across a range of administrative and editorial processes and procedures to meet department timelines, including the ability to independently resolve problems as they arise

    Marketing/Communications
  • Competence with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Comfortable writing and editing content

    Other
  • Experience working with a nonprofit organization is a plus
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Exerts the highest level of professionalism
  • Able to clarify assigned tasks and expectations and then work independently to complete assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and successfully interact with people at all management and support levels, within and outside the organization
