Description

POSITION: Pool Maintenance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Recreation

REPORTS TO: Recreation Director

SUPERVISES: Pool Landscaper

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Recreation Director, the Pool Maintenance Manager provides operational and administrative assistance for the seasonal start-up, operation, water quality management, maintenance and shut-down of the Kaukauna Municipal Pool. This position is a part-time; seasonal position.

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES

  1. Maintains a professional, courteous and friendly demeanor at all times while working with patrons, vendors, contractors and staff.
  1. Oversees and maintains the quality of the filtered, heated and treated water for swimmer bathing. Conducts daily water sampling & testing, reads controllers & gauges, inspects water quality and clarity and considers staff and patron feedback in order to evaluate current water quality conditions and make appropriate adjustments. Records and submits test results and readings to the Recreation Director and/or Outagamie County Health Department. Coordinates with Recreation Director and contracted vendors for assistance with water quality management.
  1. Oversees and performs the maintenance of the pool basin, buildings, decks, landscaping, parking areas, seating areas, tables, chairs, loungers, signs & posts, playground features, water play features, water slide, pumps, filters, feeders, controllers, sensors, restroom/bathhouse fixtures, mechanicals and equipment. Mows; rakes; shovels; weeds; trims; empties garbage and recycling; paints; vacuums; sweeps; loads and unloads materials & equipment; tightens; loosens; cleans; scrubs; operates hand tools and small power tools; applies herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers; aerates. Coordinates with the Recreation Director, Pool Supervisor, Streets and Parks Department and contracted vendors for assistance with maintenance projects.
  1. Oversees and performs the maintenance of small engine and electric equipment such as riding lawn mower, push mower, trimmer, leaf blower, pool vacuum cleaner, etc. Coordinates with the Recreation Director, Streets and Parks Mechanic and contracted vendors for assistance of maintenance projects.
  1. Performs maintenance and repairs to aquatic programming equipment such as rescue equipment, first aid cabinet, inflatables, kickboard, floats, flippers, lifejackets, training equipment, etc.
  1. Performs maintenance and repairs to concession stand machines and equipment.
  1. Oversees facility compliance with all local, state and federal regulations regarding pool operations. Ensures compliance with the City's safety program as presented in the Safety and Health Manual.
  1. Supervises and trains the Pool Landscaper and other staff assisting with the of maintenance, cleaning and care of the Kaukauna Municipal Pool and its buildings and grounds.
  1. Assists Recreation Director in the preparation, implementation and administration of the operational and capital budgets including one- and five-year projections for each.
  1. Oversees the procurement, safe storage & use and inventory of all chemicals, cleaning supplies, garbage bags/containers, paper products, tools, replacement parts/equipment, feeders, filters, etc.
  1. Maintains product documentation and operation manuals for all equipment in a well-organized filing system.
  1. Creates and maintains maintenance schedules for daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual maintenance.
  1. Attends staff meetings as scheduled by the Recreation Director (or His/Her Designee).
  1. Completes all required employment administrative duties and paperwork. Punches in prior to working and punches out after working. Submits biweekly time sheets through Ascentis Self-Service Portal. Submits administrative paperwork in a timely fashion.
  1. Maintains Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification(s) and related records
  2. Other Duties as Assigned by the Recreation Director (or His/Her Designee).
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

(ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

The Pool Maintenance Manager must possess…

  1. considerable knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in the operation and maintenance of municipal pools.
  2. or obtain within 180 days (or prior to the start of a new season whichever comes first), Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  3. or obtain within 180 days (or prior to the start of a new season whichever comes first), confined space entry certification and ability to wear a respirator.
  4. considerable knowledge of laws and regulations (local, state and federal) related to pool and facility operation and maintenance.
  5. ability to plan, organize, execute and evaluate a maintenance program in general as well as for specific projects.
  6. strong mechanical aptitude. broad background and skills in mechanically oriented tasks.
  7. considerable knowledge of pumps, motors and feeders.
  8. ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods in all kinds of weather.
  9. great written, oral and non-verbal communication skills.
  10. ability to receive, read, respond, compose and send emails and texts in a timely fashion.
  11. ability to receive and respond to voicemail in a timely fashion.
  12. ability to grow knowledge, skills and abilities essential to pool operations and maintenance.
  13. ability to show patience, empathy and understanding for patrons and coworkers.
  14. ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.

ENVIONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  1. Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, bend, lift, push and pull up to 100 pounds.
  2. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  3. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
