Peer Mentor - Rising Oaks

Job Summary:

The Peer Mentor is a primary agent for outreach to and engagement of youth for the Rising Oaks program. The Peer Mentor assists youth to identify and attain their individual goals by assisting with employment, housing, and education. The Peer Mentor teaches life skills to program participants both individually and in groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Outreach and Engagement: 1) Participates in various aspects of engagement of participants into services.

Client Services: 1) Will provide peer mentoring and support, both individually and in group formats, to participants residing at Rising Oaks; 2) Teaches life skills to residents, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, conflict resolution, transportation, job-finding, etc.; 3) In collaboration with residents, leads the Resident Council; 4) Welcomes new residents to the program; 4) may assist with assisting residents to gain employment and education.

Documentation: 1) Completes job-related documentation in a timely manner.

Community Leadership: 1) Acts as an emissary for FFYC in every community situation; 2) Participates in community committees and presentations as assigned; 3) Collaborates effectively with collateral service providers.

Professional Ethics: 1) Maintains excellent professional boundaries and adheres to all professional ethical standards including abuse reporting, maintenance of client confidentiality and FFYC Boundary Code of Ethics as examples.

Additional Duties: 1) May drive on agency business as required; 2) Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Position Requirements


  1. Experience as a consumer of services: social services, mental health, residential treatment or group home placements, foster care services, wraparound services, community resources and educational services for youth with special needs.
  2. Prior youth advocacy experience desirable.
  3. Must have willingness to work with youth and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  4. Demonstrated track record of reliable performance.
  5. Computer skills a plus.
  6. Possess a valid California Driver’s license with a good driving record.
  7. Fluency in language of community being served highly desirable.
