POSITION SUMMARY

Dawson is seeking a Training & Development Coordinator for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Workplace Solutions Program (WSP). WSP focuses on delivering alternative workplace solutions that bring together the integration of real estate, technology and people management practices and processes to drive organizational efficiency, engagement, collaboration, and innovation. The training and development component of WSP supports transitioning project offices and their employees in preparing to navigate flexible work environments.

The Training & Development Coordinator serves as an integral part of the WSP team and handles full in-house curriculum development and course design, delivery and evaluation; contributes to the strategic direction on program and project level training interventions; and prepares key briefings to management to support training requirements. The Coordinator creates and/or delivers training and development interventions within a defined area of expertise to meet the needs of transitioning project offices and their employees. Training interventions may include classroom workshops, special events, change management strategies, training materials, job aids, self-paced and mediated instruction for adult learners with varying levels of familiarity with technology.

The Training & Development Coordinator assesses and evaluates the effectiveness and impact of training interventions against program and project goals and objectives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze training needs and requirements to develop training strategies and implement training plans that support employee adoption of new workspaces, work practices and processes, technologies, and other aspects of workplace transformation.
  • Design, develop, pilot and deliver customized adult learning programs that drive short-term and long-term behavior adoption and sustained change;
  • Develop curriculum, facilitator guides, PowerPoint presentations, training documentation, and learning materials including reference guides, job aids, infographics, and audio/video scripts, based on instructional design principles. Training topics may include, but are not limited to: Managing Employees in Flexible Work Environments, Communication and Building Trust in Virtual Teams, Paper Reduction and Records Management, Using Collaboration Tools & Technology, etc.
  • Deliver and facilitate training sessions through diverse methods including, but not limited to: instructor-led classroom training, e-learning, blended programs, webinars and/or individual interventions;
  • Manage and disseminate event invitations, calendar announcements, participant notifications, and technical logistics. Communicate with WSP project points of contact about session logistics and details;
  • Record and edit audio and video for virtual meetings, webinars, and online tutorials;
  • Evaluate and document impact and results of training and development programs; gather qualitative and quantitative data and feedback from participants; debrief stakeholders and management as needed;
  • Drive follow-through on transfer of learning and application of knowledge, skills and abilities toward the adoption of new work practices and behaviors.
  • Train personnel to serve in train the trainer roles within each transitioning project office.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business. Organization development, communications, human resources, or other related field with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a professional training position
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and theories
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in training assessments, developing, and delivering training curriculum through diverse methods and using a variety of modern tools and resources
  • Experience with training evaluation models and how to effectively measure the effectiveness and impact of training interventions using metrics
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively at both the macro (program) and micro levels (project) with all team members and business partners
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, group facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise content for varied audiences
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; ability to work under tight deadlines and plan, organize and carry out multiple, detailed tasks
  • The ability to develop and prepare visually appealing training presentations and materials
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to hold a United States security clearance (active DHS/CBP preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of change management principles, alternative workplace strategies, and flexible work environments
  • Experience working within the federal government landscape, understanding of resource constraints (i.e. funding, technology, firewalls, etc.), and familiarity with how to leverage existing federal training opportunities
  • Team player and a consistent, dependable performer with an excellent work ethic, flexible “can-do” attitude, and a results-driven commitment to success
  • Ability to work independently and manage work to a defined schedule
  • Self-starter organized and motivated to meet goals and deadlines
  • Hands on experience using Adobe Connect or other virtual classroom technologies a major plus
