The position's primary responsibility is to effectively and efficiently execute shipments to meet the service objectives set by the company. Responsibilities include inbound packaging/ingredients moves, intra-plant transfers, and customer shipments for their assign plant(s). The position will and must work harmoniously in support of the plants, vendors, carriers, and Customer Service Team to meet mutual service goals.

Execute the daily plan by carrying out carrier assignment, tender, track and trace activities in support of on-time delivery of shipments.

Act responsively and reasonably as a liaison between carrier dispatchers, plant personnel, customer service representatives, and managers to communicate operational requests for shipments, status, and other requests that facilitate effective movements.

As directed by management, report on operational issues impacting the assigned plant(s) and involved customer, vendor, carriers activities. Identify, communicate, and work to resolve exceptions to the transportation plan that will impact a shipment and service expectations.

Responsible for investigating and resolving Customer Complaints and over, short, and damage (OS&D) issues.

Effectively process and support the Back-Order and RPA processes and system activities.

Act and respond in a timely manner to the flow of communication involving the assigned plant(s) of responsibility. Provide documentation to support a fluid operation. Elevate issues that adversely impact service so that the Unit may respond quickly and effectively.

Monitor shipments within assigned area of responsibility to ensure the highest level of on-time performance. Proactively reconcile exceptions, requesting assistance from management when needed.

Provide options, recommendations, or alternatives that address or prevent a service failure and in support of cost savings.

Operate proficiently within the TMS, AS400, and JDE systems to effectively support service and support economic objectives.

Position Requirements

High school diploma required.

Transportation industry experience of at least two years in traffic operations, and/or college courses in the supply chain operations is a plus.

Community College or College degree preferred.

Computer Skills to include Web/Internet Applications and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with current transportation management tools to include electronic execution within a Transportation Management System (TMS). This includes Order Management and consolidation technology, carrier selection, rating routing, assignment, electronic tender track and trace methods (EDI, E-mail, Auto Fax, Web Portal) Electronic/Online Bid Management and associated Contract Management.

Interpersonal skills to allow for collaborative efforts in dealing with unusual transportation and customer service circumstances. As the first line of contact and communication with internal and external groups representing the Transportation Unit, the position requires that behavior must be professional and courteous.

The position supports service objectives for a defined and assigned area involving one or more plants. The position is the primary day-to-day support for effective on-time delivery of inbound ingredients and packaging in support of manufacturing operations and for the shipments of finished goods. This is 1 of 6 to 7 positions that facilitate corporate-wide over-the-road & intermodal transportation that consist of 80,000 transactions and $100 Million in annual activity and expense. The activities of the Transportation Unit support overall company service level through support of manufacturing operations and customer shipments.
