Job Summary:

The Technical Documentation Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for the development of original aircraft/commodity technical manuals and Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) in compliance with TMCR and military specifications and is a S1000D Expert.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.)

  • Reviews engineering data, reports and similar material to become familiar with product or process terminology. Reviews manufacturers’ and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, testing and service of equipment. Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and details.
  • Authorized access to classified information; active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Determines installation and operating procedures and details. Conducts site survey to observe production, developmental and experimental activities. Interfaces with engineers and technicians to become familiar with installation and operation methods presently utilized.
  • Organizes material and performs writing assignments according to specifications regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology. Write technical descriptions using knowledge of material standards, industrial processes and operating procedures.
  • Review published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Analyzes developments in specific field to determine need for revisions, corrections, and changes in previously published materials and development of new materials.
  • Edit material for structure, completeness, accuracy, organization consistency, and appropriateness of content.
  • Reviews work of other writers and graphics and production personnel to ensure technical accuracy, clarity and quality as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • This position requires experience in the development of original aircraft/commodity technical manuals and Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) in compliance with TMCR and military specifications.
  • Individual must have experience with all types of manuals such as S1000D, tagged data, SGML and XML as well as all styles of manuals such as maintenance, illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs), job guides, flight manuals, checklists, et al. Must be capable of translating engineering drawings, observed procedures and other relative information into Air Force standard technical orders.
  • Must be able to draw sketches to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence.
  • Must be knowledgeable of MIL-PRF-83495 OMMS styles manuals.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Maintenance Data Digital Viewer (MDDV) and developing/sustainment of Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) is a plus.
  • Experience: 5 years working with Government Technical Manuals and related standards.
  • Requires a self-starter with strong leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Dependable attendance.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week if necessary.
  • Ability to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time (up to 10 hours a day with lunch and breaks).
  • Must be able to withstand repetitive motion up to 10 hours a day with lunch and breaks.
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person status.

Office Location and Travel:

This position is located in Warner-Robins, GA.

Up to 25% travel may be required.

Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel Requirements Up to 25%.
