SUMMARY

This position provides instructor, curriculum development skills and a high level of augmentation to the Space Safety activities in Air Force Safety Center, Space Safety Division in Albuquerque, New Mexico on or about August 1, 2018.

DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES

General Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Interface as necessary with DoD, Civil, Commercial, Academic, and International partners, to fulfill meeting assigned objectives and travel as necessary
  • Compliance with the responsibilities, philosophy, and duties associated with the AF Safety Management System
  • Generating innovative approaches to efficiently and effectively accomplish contract tasks, functions, and requirements for Space Safety
  • Maintaining compliance with DoD and AF guidance to accomplish the required mission

Specific Tasks providing sustainment support to the AFSEC Innovation and Development Branch include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Government with Space Safety evaluations, inspections, and staff assistance visits (SAV) on Major Commands, or lower level, Space Safety offices
  • Provide inputs to the Safety Report after the out brief is completed for a Space Safety evaluation, inspection, or SAV
  • Asist in managing the Space Safety mishaps in AFSAS and periodically review AFSAS for follow-up on open items
  • Provide inputs to the 'USAF Fiscal Year Annual Space Safety Report'
  • Review product improvement suggestions for AFSAS and provide inputs to the Government for implementing both short term and long-term solutions
  • Assist with curriculum development and maintaining and instructing the Board President Course (BPC), and Chiefs of Safety Course (COC)
  • Assist with maintaining and instructing the Space Mishap Investigation Course (SMIC), incorporate new Space mishaps as available and information based on student feedback, and maintain the SMIC Guide
  • Maintain the Air Force Space Safety Fundamentals training module, providing updates and corrections as needed
  • Assist the Government with developing Air Force level programs and policies to support Space Mishap Investigations
  • Provide with recommended updates to AFMAN91-222, AFI91-206, AFI91-110, AFI91-217, and other instructions and manuals depending upon publication cycles for incorporation
  • Assist with coordinating, setting up, and executing the Space Safety Council (SSC)
  • Prepare the Memorandum of Final Evaluation (MOFE) following a Class A mishap for AF/SE review and approval in accordance with AFI 91-204, Chapter 7
  • Cultivate and provide the Government recommendations to implement innovative technology designed to reduce risk to Space Operations
  • Write one Space-specific articles every quarter for posting on the AFSEC homepage
  • Support the International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS) abstract and paper review and submission process, providing peer-review inputs on submissions
  • Provide two each abstracts and papers for submission to IAASS. Example submission topics are small satellites standard operating procedures, debris collection, or cube satellites (CDRL A002, A003)
  • Perform a 'Spacecraft Lifecycle Safety Study'
  • Analyze collision avoidance (COLA) data to determine the most populated orbital debris areas
  • The contractor shall research and gather information on small satellites capabilities, safety measures, and lessons learned (CDRL A002, A003)
  • Develop table top exercises (TTX) for the space community
 
Position Requirements

Education Required - Bachelor’s Degree
Education Desired - Education in in Instructional Systems Design or Instructional Systems Development

Secret clearance upon employment.

  • Experience as an on-podium instructor and curriculum development
  • Have a minimum of two-years’ experience interacting with AF Organizations at all levels; space-related organizations desired.
  • Experience in AF doctrine, policy, and regulation/instruction organization.
  • Experience in space-related activities within the AF and related connections to DoD space-related activities.
  • Experience in safety and surety concepts as applied within the AF.

DESIRED

  • Air Force Space Systems Operations or Space Officer operations experience
  • Familiarity with the Air Force Safety Assessment System (AFSAS)
  • Ability to gather and compile date from AFSAS

NOTE: Ideal candidates will have on-podium instructor and curriculum development experience with experience in two or more aspects of the Space System lifecycle (research, development, design, manufacturing, transport, pre-launch, launch, orbital operations, disposal, reentry, and ground-based systems and activities).
