Description

The chaplain's primary role is to 'serve those who serve.' Their mission is to provide emotional and spiritual support to Fire & EMS responders as well as those affected by incidents these responders encounter.

Volunteers will:

  • Develop a positive working relationship with Fire & EMS staff.
  • Provide emotional support and assistance to firefighters and their families.
  • Provide counseling to firefighters, their families, and the public affected by the stressors related to emergency incidents and response.
  • Assist in notifying family members of serious injuries, line-of-duty deaths, and suicides involving fire department members and their families.
 
Position Requirements
  • Must be able to dedicate a minimum of 2 hours of time per visit
  • Must be able to interact positively with the general public
  • Must be able to communicate clearly
  • Must represent Sumter County in a professional manner
  • Must never give false or inaccurate information to the public
  • Acceptable vision (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
