Environmental Specialist

Alliant Engineering, Inc., a Minneapolis based firm recently named Minnesota Firm of the Year by the Minnesota Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC/MN), has an exciting opportunity in our Transportation department. Alliant has a proven track record of providing services of exceptional quality and value to our clients over the last 20 years.

Alliant Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Specialist for our Minneapolis office.

On our team, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference and work in a dynamic, rewarding and challenging environment. You will provide environmental related design support for land development and major transportation projects.

Responsibilities:

As an Environmental Specialist, you will primarily be conducting wetland delineations and natural resources field reviews and preparing reports and permit applications on transportation and development infrastructure projects. The level of work will encompass planning, design, and construction phases of the project. Other duties include:

  • Conducting hydrologic and vegetation monitoring of wetland mitigation sites.
  • Collaboration with land development, roadway, drainage, geotechnical, surveyors, and other design disciplines to deliver high-quality project deliverables.
  • Performing environmental compliance audits on construction projects.
 
Position Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of previous experience with federal, state, municipal, and watershed district environmental regulatory programs, especially Wetland Conservation Act and Section 404 permitting.
  • Completion of 5-day basic wetland delineator certification training.
  • Experience preparing maps and figures in ArcView or other GIS platforms.
  • Strong, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and fulfill commitments related to project deadlines.
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with rare plant surveys and tree inventories
  • Previous work experience with a regulatory agency
  • Experience with DOT projects
  • Experience writing Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA and EAW) and/or Categorical Exclusions (CATEX)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Microstation
