Job Summary

The Director, Business Development will be responsible for the growth of season and group ticket sales for the Pittsburgh Pirates. A key position for the club, the Director, Business Development will hire, train, develop and lead a large and diverse staff with a goal of being amongst the best sales and service department in professional sports.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement sales strategies and forecasts to meet or exceed ticket sales revenue benchmarks in the areas of new season ticket packages and group sales.
  2. Manage the operating budgets for focus areas, taking corrective action to guarantee achievements of objectives and goals.
  3. Lead and develop key department leaders, including Managers, Fan Development and Manager, Group Ticket Sales.
  4. Oversee the new season ticket and group sales communication strategy, coordinating with Pirates communication team to create all written and digital communication pieces.
  5. Establish clear guidelines for regular performance management and training programs.
  6. Create experiences and events to drive new business revenue for the club.
  7. Create a culture that encourages innovation, fosters open communication and creates future leaders within the industry.
  8. Monitor commission and bonus structure for specific areas of the business.
  9. Drive consistent and frequent communication about product offerings and campaigns to staff members across the organization.
  10. Collaborate across department to develop and execute comprehensive new sales campaigns that drive awareness and create urgency within the marketplace.
  11. Continuously develop rapport with vendors to identify new products that can bring value and drive revenue to sales and service team.
  12. Network with other industry leaders to identify new best practices and consistently assess how the Pirates can challenge the status quo.
  13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President, Ticket Sales, and Service & Operations.
 
Position Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year university
  • Minimum of 4 years industry related experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Prior experience with a CRM system, preferably Microsoft Dynamics

Desired:

  • Thorough understanding of sales cycle for both season tickets and group sales
  • Proven track record of designing and executing upon a comprehensive group sales project plan
  • Experience managing a sales team and exceeding organizational sales goals
