Position Summary:

The Director of Education supports the work of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's mission to educate the public and preserve the legacy of Wright's architecture and ideas. Focuses on program creation and operation of public access programs, with a specific focus on education and interpretive programs for grades K-12.

Essential Functions:

  • Building on the legacy of educational programming at the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, develops content for on-site and distance learning, including but not limited to:
    • Interpretive plans for the site reflecting on our mission focus -preservation, innovation for sustainable living, and STEAM education based on Wright's architecture and ideas;
    • Curriculum development for grades K-12, including on-site through tours, classes, and camps;
    • Curriculum development for adult outreach;
    • Teacher training workshops and workshops for educators;
    • Partnerships with community organizations; and
    • Educational content creation for licensing and online (distance) learning.
  • Leads the deployment of programming at Taliesin West and offsite opportunities created by the Foundation;
  • Works as part of a development team to identify and securing funding for these initiatives;
  • Markets the programs to interested educational and museum partners, including other Frank Lloyd Wright sites, to deliver programming to a wide audience; and
  • Organizes and administers student project exhibitions for schools, public sites, and at Taliesin West.
  • Implements related program logistics, including scheduling, registration, record keeping, and invoices
  • Continually monitors programs for quality assurance via evaluation; make recommendations and implement modifications based on evaluation findings
  • Applies best practices in education for school aged children
  • Supervises and coordinates educational staff, volunteers and interns
  • Orders and maintains related materials and supplies; tracks and reports program attendance and maintain program documentation
  • Participates on cross departmental teams
  • Maintains departmental responsibilities (meetings, email, phone, etc.)
  • Other programs, collaborations, and duties as assigned
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education and at least five years’ K-12 instructional experience; STEAM education experience preferred.
  • At least five (5) years’ work experience in or with museums or other arts/culture organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright preferred.
  • A strong understanding of and experience with informal learning strategies and a variety of learning environments, including schools, science centers, and/or museum preferred.
  • STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) program development experience required.
  • Experience with K-12th grade students and teachers required.
